Concern: Noises from the passenger side Airbag covers while driving.

General Information:




The two felt strips on the airbag covers on the passenger side of the vehicle have been replaced with three Teflon Strips (figure 1) as of July 1, 1994 production from VIN's:

99XSS321420 Coupe
991SS341178 Cabriolet

Due to production reasons a few vehicles built after the above mentioned production date still received the felt Strips.

Repair Information:




In case of noise complaints from this area, three (3) Teflon strips should be installed on the top cover (figure 2).

Repair Procedure:

- Disconnect battery.
- Remove radio and radio frame.
- Remove Heater/AC vent, Heater/AC control head and frame.
- Remove ashtray.
- Remove kneebar and disconnect wires to the passenger airbag.
- Remove the lower airbag cover (3 bolts).

- Remove the felt Strips on the upper airbag cover and install (3) Teflon strips at the dimensions shown in (figure 2). Start with the installation of the Teflon strips on the edge (circled area figure 2).

Important:




The Teflon Strips must be installed approximately 2mm over the top radius of the upper cover (figure 3).

Repair Procedure:
Reinstall all components in the reverse order.
