Spark Plug: Service and Repair
REPLACING THE SPARK PLUGSOperations performed from above:
1. Take off intercooler.
NOTE:
- The rear square-head nuts of the lower intercooler mount may drop off after they have been undone.
- Plug pressure pipes between intercooler and turbocharger (to prevent ingress of foreign matter).
2. Remove heater blower.
Operations performed from below:
NOTE: The spark plugs of cylinders No. 1 to 5 are accessible from above while the spark plug of cylinder No. 6 is accessible from below.
1. Take off rear wheels.
2. Take off both rear mufflers.
3. Unbolt pressure pipes form turbocharger and pull off, working from engine compartment. Plug turbocharger openings (to prevent ingress of foreign matter).
4. Removing spark plug of cylinder No. 6:
- Take off intake pipe between turbocharger and intake rail
- Remove cover from right-hand engine paneling.
- Pull off plug connector, press off with wooden wedge, taking care not to twist it.
- Screw out spark plug with standard socket as supplied by Snap-on, Order No. 5 9706, with extension, Snap-on Order No. FXW 4. Increase length as required when refitting plug. Do not use extension when starting the plug in the threads.
NOTE: Do not apply lubricant to plug threads. Remove plugs from turbochargers and pressure pipes.
