Engine Speed Sensor: Adjustments

CHECKING AND ADJUSTING PULSE SENDER

The gap between the reference mark sender and the gear ring is 1.0 ± 0.2 mm.

Adjusting With Engine Removed
1. Loosen screws at holder.

Reference Sensor:




2. Use feeler gauge to set distance between gear ring and reference mark sender to 1.0 ± 0.2 mm..

Adjusting With Engine Installed
1. Detach right drive shaft from transmission flange and rest it on side section. Protect drive shaft against damage, e.g. by using hose section.
2. Remove intake port for clutch bleeding.
3. Remove rubber seal between transmission housing and reference mark sender.

Reference Sensor:




4. If available, a defective reference mark sender can be used as adjustment tool. To do so, use appropriate adhesive to bond 1.0 mm washer to reference mark sender as measure of air gap. The installed reference mark sender can also be used for this purpose if it is handled with care. In this case, the bonding area should be as small as possible; the adhesive used should be easily removable.
5. Fit reference mark sender with washer to holder and tighten it.
6. Set holder with reference mark sender with washer to stop (gear ring), then tighten holder.

Reference Sensor:




7. Remove reference mark sender with washer. It original sender has been used, remove washer carefully and remove any adhesive.
8. Reinstall reference mark sender. Tightening torque 8 Nm (6 ft lb.).

Checking signal using engine tester
1. Use adapter cable to connect engine tester. To do so, use special port (negative to pin 2).
2. Start engine / rev up starter.

Sinus Waves:




The oscilloscope must display sinus waves with a minimum of 3V (engine speed signal) and a higher amplitude (reference mark signal).
