Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

General Description

The radio generation used with model year '96 is also available for the Boxster. It is based on units from the car radio manufacturer Becker. The loudness characteristics of these units have been specially adapted to the speaker equipment and spatial conditions in Porsche vehicles.

All of the units have a modern top-qualify design. A well thought-out mmenu system provides high operating comfort and convenience since very few buttons with largely self-explanatory functions are used. A detachable control unit and coding ensure theft protection.

With the launch of the Boxster, all of the radio units comprise a range of features:
- "Speed-dependent volume regulation" (SDVR).
Here, the volume is virtually steplessly increased or decreased by up to t6 steps as the speed of the vehicle increases. The increase in volume can be programmed in three different forms, according to the requirements of the individual.
- The radio's display can now be dimmed using the instrument illumination adjuster.
- During the course of modification, the desire for greater efficiency in the uppermost volume range has been satisfied.
- The 4 x 15 Watt output element used with the radio,/cassette players is also used with CDR 21/210.

The following radio units are available:
- Porsche CR 11 - Radio/cassette player (basic unit)
- Porsche CR 21 - Radio/cassette player for high demands
Porsche CR 210 USA
- Porsche CDR 21 - Radio/CD player for high demands
Porsche CDR 210 USA
- Porsche CR 31 - 2 tuner radio/cassette for highest demands

CD changer CDC-3
Each of the available radios can be combined with the Porsche CD changer CDC-3. This changer for 6 CDs is one of the smallest of its type. This saves space in the rear part of the front luggage compartment where it is installed.
The changer is controlled using the control elements of the radio.

On request, two 114 mm broad-band loudspeaker systems as well as an antenna booster can also be installed. They are located to the left and right of the dashboard. This positioning and adaptation are aimed at the very special requirements of two-seater sports cars.

Acoustic package
As with broad-band systems, development objects were (apart from a pleasant and homogeneous acoustic pattern) bass boosting with subdued middle and high frequencies. In The sound package, The broad-band loudspeakers are therefore replaced by two high- and two mid4requency units. Furthermore there is a bass reflex speaker with low-frequency unit in each of the doors.

The acoustic package comprises the following components:
- One 114 mm and one 36 mm high-frequency loudspeaker system, left and right in the dashboard.
- One bass reflex speaker with 130 mm low-frequency loudspeaker, left and right in each door.
- 4-channel amplifier with integrated filter modules for precise acoustic adaptation to the special conditions inside the Boxster's passenger compartment.

The acoustic package is only available with a radio, but can be offered in combination with any radio from the Porsche range. The acoustic package is recommendable if a CD player is installed (i.e. CDR 21/CDR 210 or CD changer CDC-3).
