Installation of Hardtop/Speedster Cover Pivot Pin Guides

Vehicle Type:
Boxsters without hardtop (M550) or Speedster cover (Exc-Nr. XAB)

Model Year:
As of 1997 (V)

Concern:

Whenever a hardtop or Speedster cover is installed other than a production installation, the new pivot pin guides must also be installed. The pivot pin guides and bolts come with the hardtop or Speedster cover, however, they are also available separately.

Information:

Before installation, be sure that the guides are not already installed. To check this the top must be all the way open and the plastic covers should be removed. Keep the plastic covers for possible later use. If the pivot pin guides are not installed (Figure 1), the following procedure for the installation of the guides should be used.

Installation:

Remove the left and right inside trim covers.

- Widen the slot with a screwdriver (Figure 2, position B) and remove any burrs.

Important:
The left and right guides are marked with an L and R (Figure 2, arrow).

- Line up the guide (Figure 2, position A) so that the squeeze bolt (Figure 2, position C) aligns with the bore of the guide. Note the notch in guide and guide housing (Figure 2, dotted line).

- Use a plastic hammer and drive the guide into the hole. Close the top and lock into place.

- Install the special screw (Figure 2, position C) into the squeeze bushing and torque with a 5mm allen wrench to 23 Nm (16.6 ft/lb).

- The guide bushings must be installed flush and must be in position as shown (Figure 3, arrow).

- Reinstall the left and right trim covers.
