Luggage Rack/Rear Lid Rack With Hard Shell Case Installation Instructions
Vehicle Type:
Boxster / Boxster S
Model Year:
As of '97 (V)
Concerns:
Installation and operation of the rear lid rack and hard-shell case.
Information:
A rear lid rack with hard-shell case has been developed for the Boxster. The convertible top can be opened, a hardtop can be fitted, and the spoiler can extend without restriction after the rearlid rack has been fitted.
Note:
The rear-lid rack cannot be fitted on vehicles equipped with the aerokit.
The carrier system consists of two chrome-plated aluminium rails and one chrome-plated aluminium locking bar. All three components are fitted on the rear luggage compartment lid.
The metallic grey plastic case contains various fittings and can be painted to match the color of the car. See Paint Manual for painting guidelines. A brake light is integrated in the upper shell half. This brake light replaces the raised brake light of the vehicle when the case is fitted on the vehicle.
WARNING
There is a risk of accident which can cause serious injury or even death to you and others should the case not be properly secured.
> Check to make sure that the case is fastened securely on the rear lid before each trip and periodically during extended trips.
> Check to make sure the case is properly locked (refer to the sticker in the case for details of the key positions) before each trip.
There is a risk of accident which can cause serious injury or even death to you and others due to higher center of gravity and that may create different handling behavior.
> It is advisable not to exceed a speed of 100 mph (160 km/h) with the case fitted. Adapt driving style accordingly.
> keep the load's center of gravity as low as possible.
Important Note:
Damage to the rear lid or case is possible due to improper fitting (use) of the case. The case must always be empty when it is fitted or removed. Fit and remove the case with great care. Secure the case against shifting when the vehicle is in motion (e.g. by using the Porsche garment bag).
Damage to the rear lid or case is possible if the vehicle is washed in a car wash with the case fitted. Always remove the case from the rear-lid rack before washing the vehicle in a car wash. Clean the removed case in accordance with the Paint care chapter in the Owner's Manual.
