Air-Conditioning System

As an optional extra, the Boxster is delivered with a fully automatic air-conditioning system (USA standard). The air-conditioning system automatically regulates the passenger compartment temperature preselected with the climate controller.
A passenger compartment temperature of between 18 °C and 29 °C can be selected (recommended: 22 °C). If necessary, the automatic system can also be influenced manually.

In order to take the subjective temperature perception of the occupants into consideration during regulation, apart from passenger compartment temperature and ambient temperature the solar radiation energy is also determined by a sensor and the temperature regulated accordingly.

The fully automatic regulation system influences the temperature distribution between the upper and lower area so that the needs of the vehicle's occupants can be fully satisfied.

If necessary, it is also possible to control this distribution manually at the control unit.

The cooling output of the air-conditioning system is generated by a flow-regulated compressor. This compressor contributes to energy saving due to the requirement-dependent dosing of the refrigerant, and to optimization of the engine idling speed due to the unchanging power consumption of the compressor.

To save space, the condensers in the air-conditioning system are installed together with the fans at the front of the vehicle on the left-hand right-hand side.

The ventilation system of the passenger compartment is designed in such a way that the rear luggage compartment is also ventilated. Heating, and cooling (if an air-conditioning system installed), of the passenger compartment also influences the temperature conditions in the rear luggage compartment even when the convertible-top is closed.
