Malfunction Indicator Lamp: Description and Operation

CHECK-ENGINE WARNING LAMP:

The check-engine warning lamp is installed in the instrument cluster of all Boxster models. All models, apart from USA vehicles (OBD II as standard), the warning lamp is only activated in the case of combustion faults which could damage the catalytic converters.

Function:
If combustion faults are detected by the DME control unit and if the frequency at which these faults occur could result in thermal damage to the catalytic converter, the check-engine lamp flashes. If the engine load or engine speed is reduced by the driver (see Owner's Manual), the warning lamp ceases to flash and is permanently lit. In addition, the injection valve is closed by the DME control unit at the appropriate cylinder.
