Checking Cabriolet Top Locating Pins

Concerns:

Check for correct locating pins or missing pins on Cabriolet convertible top.

Information:

It is possible that a locating pin that is too short was installed on the convertible top, or that no locating pin was installed at all, due to improper repairs.

Only locating pins with part number, 911.565.214.60 (length 39 mm) are approved for use on the Cabriolet convertible top of the above-mentioned models. Locating pins having part number, 911.565.074.40 (length 36 mm-1 mm) are only to be used on the 911 Targa. Installation of this "Targa locating pin" on the Cabriolet convertible top, or the operation of the vehicle without locating pins on the Cabriolet convertible top is not permitted.

If you know of any vehicle that has the wrong locating pin installed, or of one that does not have a locating pin installed, locating pins with part number, 911.565.214.60 (length 39 mm) must be installed.

Measure:

When performing assembly work on a Cabriolet convertible top, check if the mounted locating pin is too short, or if there is not a locating pin mounted, and if necessary, install locating pins having the correct length.

Work Procedure:

1. Open convertible top.





2. Perform a visual inspection if locating pins (Fig. 1, Item A) are installed on the convertible top frame on the right and left side.

Locating pins installed - continue with Step 3.

No locating pins installed - continue with Step 5.





3. Measure the length of the installed locating pins with a caliper gauge.

Locating pins length (Fig. 2, Item B) 36 mm (-1 mm) - continue with Step 4.

Locating pin length (Fig. 2, Item A) 39 mm - continue with Step 6.

4. Replace locating pins length 36 mm (-1 mm) having part number, 911.565.074.40 by longer locating pins (length 39 mm) having part number, 911.565.214.60 and adjust convertible top. Then continue with Step 6.

5. Install locating pins having part number, 911.565.214.60 and adjust convertible top.

6. Close convertible top.
