Vehicle Damage Warnings

Safety Notes And Information For Repairs On The Chassis

Fitting Running Gear Parts

WARNING:
Danger of accident and material damage. If the mounting specifications are not observed, the long-life behaviour of screw connections cannot be guaranteed (connections can become loose) and/or restriction of the service life or function of components is possible.
- Carry out an exact visual inspection of all parts used on the chassis.
- Use only original spare parts approved by Porsche.
- Replace self-locking nuts.
- When fitting control arms on the wheel carrier, ensure that the bevel pinions are clean. If necessary, clean with lint-free cloth. Do not use a cleaning agent.
- Specified tightening torques should be strictly observed.
- Observe grease specification (for example on drive shafts).

Spring Struts/Coil Springs

CAUTION: Changes in handling by fitting incorrect components.

Prior mechanical damage to coil springs by incorrect handling of the customer or in the workshop can lead to coil springs breaking, also at a later point in time.
- Installing new coil springs/spring struts, ensure the correct classification according to the spare part catalogue (version, dimensions, and right/left parts).
- Only use suitable or specified tools/spring compressors to remove or install coil springs.
- Avoid the following effects on coil springs at all times: hammer taps, welding beads, applying color identification retroactively.
- Do not perform any welding or grinding work (separate work) in the area of the coil springs or the spring struts. If necessary, cover the coil springs or spring struts.
- Before installing components, give the parts a visual check and replace the coil springs as necessary.

Working On Vehicles With PSM

DANGER:
Danger of injury and damage to property due to malfunctions in the PSM control range if the steering angle sensor is not calibrated or is calibrated incorrectly.
- After working on wheel suspension parts, when replacing the steering angle sensor, and after changing me wheel alignment values, calibrate me steering angle sensor when the front wheels are in me straight-ahead position on measuring platform.

Brake System

WARNING:
Danger of injury and danger of damaging vehicle by affecting me braking effect when using non type-specific Porsche original spare parts, or when the brake pads and/or brake discs are replaced too late.
- The brake pads must be replaced when me brake pad warning indicator lights up, but no later than when there is a residual pad thickness of 2 mm.
- Replace the brake discs in good time (observe minimum thickness of brake discs and surface condition).
- Danger of accident if brake pads with the wrong brake pad quality are installed.
- Use only me type-specific brake pads (correct brake pad quality) in the Porsche Spare Parts Catalogue. When installing new expanding spring, fit a new retaining pin and new retainer (safety bracket) or retaining pin screw on the brake caliper.

NOTE:
- Observe brake-fluid quality. Use only new DOT 4 brake fluid.
- The brake-fluid change interval using Super DOT 4 brake fluid is two years.
- This brake fluid is available under the following part numbers: Quantity supplied 1 litre = 000.043.203.66. Container quantity 30 litres = 000.043.203.67.

Handling Airbag Systems

WARNING:
A triggering of the airbag (malfunction in the airbag system caused by improper work on airbag components cannot be ruled out. In the case of such a malfunction, an unsuitable steering wheel holder could cause injury or damage during suspension alignment.
- During suspension alignment, only use steering wheel holders which do not project into the area of the airbag unit.
- Observe safety regulations for airbag vehicles.

Steering

CAUTION:
Danger of damage to property if too much Pentosin CHF 11S is filled in the supply tank of the power steering or if Pentosin comes into contact with the coolant hoses when filling or topping up.
- Observe the following specifications in order to avoid overfilling and thus overflowing.
- Multiple steering operations (manoeuvring) with the engine switched off change the fluid level in the reservoir. Fluid level rises. In this case, the engine must be run for approx. 20 seconds immediately prior to the fluid level check.
- If coolant hoses come into contact with Pentosin, thoroughly clean them with water IMMEDIATELY.
- Replace visibly swollen coolant hoses.

NOTE: Rack-and-pinion steering gear and servo pump must not be repaired or dismantled.
