Fitting

1. Preparatory work.

Damage or warping can occur on components in the event of improper painting and drying processes! Observe the specifications and instructions for the painting of plastics as stated in the Paint Manual, part number WKD 482 620.

1.1 Mount both GT rear side skirts on at least two threaded pins for painting and drying. Paint them as described in the Paint Manual (material: PUR).

1.2 Remove rear bumper covering, see 911 Carrera (996) Technical Manual, Group 6, Part ID 6355 and place it on a cushioned surface.

2. Fitting both GT rear side skirts.

2.1 Remove both drilling templates from the boxes.

2.2 Place the corresponding mounting side of each of the drilling templates on the outside of the rear bumper covering and align as described below:

- parallel to lower edge of groove

- align the dashed line on the projecting end of the drilling template with the seam of wheel housing and place it around the seam of the wheel housing (Figure 2).

Affix the drilling templates in the end position on the rear bumper covering with adhesive tape.

2.3 Transfer the position of the bore holes (cross hairs) onto the bumper covering using the scriber.

2.4 Carefully remove both drilling templates from the rear spoiler. Drill holes (2.0 mm pilot holes, 9.5 mm bore holes) in the rear bumper covering at the markings.

2.5 Remove burr from the bore holes on the outside and inside of the rear bumper covering using a counter-sink.

2.6 Place the painted GT covers on the outsideof the rear bumper covering and align as shown by the arrows in Figure 3. The gap dimension between the GT rear side skirt and rear bumper covering (wheel housing and upper edge) should be at zero.

2.7 A second person is required to press the GT covers against the rear bumper while the GT covers are being screwed on. Observe the tightening sequence shown in Figure 3.

Tightening torque: 3 Nm (2 ft lb).

3. Install rear bumper covering, see 911 Carrera (996) Technical Manual, Group 6, Serv. No. 6355).
