Noise From Brake/Clutch Pedal
Vehicle Type:
911 Carrera (996)
Model Year:
As of 1999 (X)
Concern:
Noises when operating the brake pedal or clutch pedal.
Information:
Squeaking and/or clicking noises can occur when the brake or clutch pedals are operated, and should be repaired as outlined.
To repair noises, the pedals must be removed, and the following surfaces lubricated with Optimal Optitemp LG2 grease, Part Number, 000 043 203 37:
1) All sliding surfaces of the brake and/or clutch pedal bushings. See 911 Carrera (996) Technical Manual, Binder Group 4, Section 46 05 19, pages 46-29 - 46-37 for work procedure.
2) All pivot surfaces of the clutch pedal boost spring (if applicable). It is extremely important to clean all pre-existing grease residue from the boost spring pivot points before applying new Optimal Optitemp LG2 grease! Cleaning must be performed with petroleum naphtha, as outlined in the 911 Carrera (996) Technical Manual, Binder Group 4, Section 46 05 19, page 46-31 (last paragraph). Observe the safety instructions in the Technical Manual when handling the boost spring. (A cotter pin must be used to secure the boost spring before pedal cluster disassembly, to prevent injury).
Failure to follow the outlined procedure or to use the proper grease may result in an unsuccessful repair.
