Control Unit Function
Warning Light
The roll-over protection system warning light is illuminated for approx. 5 seconds when the buzzer contact (terminal 86S) is activated. Afterwards it is extinguished once again.
Under the following conditions, the roll-over protection system warning light is illuminated again or does not go out:
- The control unit was not 'locked'.
- The transport lock was 'active' in the control unit.
- The connector is not engaged in the control unit or is engaged incorrectly.
- A fault has been identified and made available in the fault memory.
Replace Control Module
DANGER:
- Danger of personal injury by control units whose transport lock is not activated.
- The roll-over protection system can only be activated safely when the transport lock is activated.
- Before removing the control unit, remove the vehicle key from the ignition lock and pull the connector out of the control unit.
- Danger of personal injury by control units whose transport lock is not activated.
- The roll-over protection system can only be activated safely when the transport protection system is not activated.
- After installing a new control unit, do not start the vehicle until the transport protection system has been switched to 'inactive'.
- Danger of personal injury by control units which are not locked.
- The roll-over protection system can only be actuated if the control unit has been locked.
- After installing a new or unlocked control unit, do not start the vehicle until the system has been completely installed and the control unit has been locked.
CAUTION:
Risk of damage due to corrosion in the plug connections.
This may cause malfunctions and system failures.
- Protect the plug connections from liquids.
- Remove any penetrating liquids completely by suitable means.
Actual Values
The operating time and number of triggered straps are indicated in the actual menu values. After 200 triggered straps the fault code 13 'trigger counter' is set.
Drive Links
The roll-over protection can be triggered with this menu item.
DANGER:
- Danger of accidents by remaining in the functional area of the roll-over protection strap.
- Danger of accidents by placing objects in the functional area of the roll-over protection strap.
- The roll-over protection straps may be released accidentally or intentionally during the diagnosis/troubleshooting even if the battery has been clamped beforehand.
- Before starting the diagnosis/troubleshooting, open the convertible top completely, dismantle the cover and remove the hardtop from the vehicle if necessary.
- Ensure that body parts are kept away from the functional area of the roll-over protection strap.
- Ensure that objects are kept away from the functional area of the roll-over protection strap.
- During all work and analysis/troubleshooting concerning the roll-over protection system, the roll-over protection must be released beforehand and only run in again when all work is complete.
PROCEDURE:
1. Using the Porsche System Tester II No. 9588, select the menu item 'actuator'.
2. Activate button F2 followed by button F8 after one another with an interval of max. 2 seconds.
3. End the procedure with the << key.
The roll-over protection is now extended and can be replaced by hand.
Events
The results memory can be read out with this menu item.
The number of results and the triggering code are indicated.
PROCEDURE:
1. Using the Porsche System Tester II No. 9588, select the menu item 'Results'.
2. The display can be saved in the work report using the F4 key.
3. End the procedure with the << key.
Transport Lock
The status of the transport lock can be read and altered with this menu item.
DANGER:
- Danger of personal injury by control units whose transport lock is not activated.
- The roll-over protection system can only be activated safely when the transport protection system is not activated.
- After installing a new control unit, do not start the vehicle until the transport protection system has been switched to 'inactive'.
- After transporting a vehicle, do not start the vehicle until the transport protection system has been switched to 'inactive'.
- Danger of personal injury by control units whose transport lock is not activated.
- The roll-over protection system can only be activated safely when the transport protection system is activated.
- Before removing the control unit, remove the vehicle key from the ignition lock and pull the connector out of the control unit.
- Danger of damage to goods by transporting vehicles whose transport lock is not activated.
- The roll-over protection system can be activated unintentionally if the transport lock is not active during transportation.
- Before transporting the vehicle, switch the transport lock to 'active'.
Calling up status of transport lock
PROCEDURE:
1. Using the Porsche System Tester II No. 9588, select the menu item 'Transport lock'.
The current status of the transport lock is indicated ('Transport lock inactive ', or 'Transport lock active').
2. The display can be saved in the work report using the F4 key.
3. End the procedure with the << key.
Changing status of transport lock
PROCEDURE:
1. Using the Porsche System Tester II No. 9588, select the menu item 'Transport lock'.
The current status of the transport lock is indicated ('Transport lock inactive', or 'Transport lock active').
2. The display can be saved in the work report using the F4 key.
3. Then press the >> key.
4. Select the required transport lock status from the menu with the buttons Up Arrow and Down Arrow.
5. Encode the new transport lock status using the button F8 and wait until the display 'Coding has changed' appears.
6. End the procedure with the << key.
Extract Coding
The control unit coding can be called up with this menu item.
The following items are displayed:
'Transport lock' (e.g. 'inactive')
'Locked by' xxxxxxx
'Vehicle type' (e.g. '911(996)')
NOTE: XXXXXXX refer to The workshop number from the diagnosis card of the coding Porsche System Tester II No. 9588 is stored.
PROCEDURE:
1. Select the menu item 'Extract coding' using the Porsche System Tester II No. 9588.
2. End the procedure with the << key.
Lock
The control unit can be locked with this menu item.
DANGER:
- Danger of personal injury by control units which are not locked.
- The roll-over protection system can only be actuated if the control unit has been locked.
- After installing a new or unlocked control unit, do not start the vehicle until the system has been completely installed and the control unit has been locked.
NOTE: The workshop number from the diagnosis card of the locking Porsche System Tester II No. 9588 is stored.
PROCEDURE:
1. Using the Porsche System Tester II No. 9588, select the menu item 'Lock'.
2. Using the buttons Up Arrow and Down Arrow select the correct vehicle type and then press the button >>.
3. Encode the new transport lock status using the button F8 and wait until the display 'Control unit locked' appears.
NOTE:
- If the display 'Control unit was already locked' appears the control unit was already locked beforehand.
- Check that the correct vehicle is displayed.
- If this is the case, the control unit can remain in the vehicle.
- If the wrong vehicle is displayed, a new control unit must be installed in the vehicle and the procedure repeated.
