Information:
As of September 29, 1999 production and engine number M9604 66 Y 0328, the 911 Carrera (996) is equipped with a new type alternator with a freewheeling belt pulley. The new type alternator eliminates the need for a drive belt guide clip that was used to prevent drive belt derailing under certain conditions. The alternator with freewheeling pulley is only used in manual transmission vehicles.

Note:
When addressing drive belt derailing on vehicles equipped with the former type alternator, refer to Technical information Bulletin, Group. 1, # 10/99, and install a drive belt guide clip. DO NOT replace the alternator to repair drive belt derailing!
