Safety Notes
DANGER:
- Danger of personal injury by remaining in the functional area of the roll-over protection strap.
- Danger of personal injury by placing objects in the functional area of the roll-over protection strap.
- The roll-over protection straps may be released accidentally or intentionally during the diagnosis/troubleshooting even if the battery has been clamped beforehand.
- Before starting the diagnosis/troubleshooting, open the convertible top completely, dismantle the cover and remove the hardtop from the vehicle if necessary.
- Ensure that body parts are kept away from the functional area of the roll-over protection strap.
- Ensure that objects are kept away from the functional area of the roll-over protection strap.
- During all work and analysis/troubleshooting concerning the roll-over protection system, the roll-over protection must be released beforehand and only run in again when all work is complete.
- Danger of personal injury by control units which are not locked.
- The roll-over protection system can only be actuated if the control unit has been locked.
- After installing a new or unlocked control unit, do not start the vehicle until the system has been completely installed and the control unit has been locked.
- Danger of personal injury by control units whose transport protection system is not activated.
- The roll-over protection system can only be activated safely when the transport protection system is not activated.
- After installing a new control unit, do not start the vehicle until the transport protection system has been switched to 'inactive'.
- After transporting a vehicle, do not start the vehicle until the transport protection system has been switched to 'inactive'.
- Danger of personal injury by control units whose transport protection system is not activated.
- The roll-over protection system can only be activated safely when the transport protection system is activated.
- Before removing the control unit, remove the vehicle key from the ignition lock and pull the connector out of the control unit.
- Danger of damage to goods by transporting vehicles whose transport protection system is not activated.
- The roll-over protection system can be activated unintentionally if the transport protection system is not active during transportation.
- Before transporting the vehicle, switch the transport protection system to 'active'.
CAUTION:
Danger of damage due to improper handling of batteries and control module plug connections.
This may cause malfunctions and system failures.
- Disconnect the battery connection terminals only when the engine is switched off.
- Start the engine only when the battery connection terminals are properly connected.
- Pull off or push on plug connections for the control units or other electronic components only when the ignition is switched off.
- Protect the plug connections from liquids.
- Remove any penetrating liquids completely by suitable means.
- Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery before welding work on the vehicle.
General Information
Observe the following points:
- The control unit roll-over protection must be locked before the first journey after changing.
- In order to test the roll-over protection system and keep it operational, the roll-over strap must be activated at regular intervals (Refer maintenance instructions).
- After troubleshooting or repairs, erase the fault memory with the Porsche System Tester II No. 9588 and carry out a test drive.
- After the test drive, read out the fault memory with the Porsche System Tester II No. 9588 again.
General Information On The Fault Memory
- The contents of the fault memory are retained even when the unit is removed.
- Faults in the control unit can only be erased after an "ignition off - on" reset.
Diagnostic Conditions
The fault can only be identified if the requirements listed under diagnostic conditions are met. For this reason, the specified procedure must be observed after a fault is repaired:
1. Clear fault memory.
2. Satisfy the requirements listed under 'Diagnostic conditions'.
3. Read out fault memory again
Possible Causes Of Fault
The possible fault causes that may be responsible for the fault are listed here. Please note that in certain circumstances further faults can be stored in the fault memory after troubleshooting (e.g. if plugs are disconnected). After carrying out repairs, read out the fault memory of all control modules and erase any faults.
Diagnosis/Troubleshooting
- The errors entered are indicated using the Porsche fault code and as clear text.
- The fault memory Info key F8 on the Porsche System Tester II No. 9588 can be used to access the extended fault memory. This information should be saved using the F4 key and printed out. The following information can be displayed:
- Fault type
The following fault types are possible:
- -- (No details available)
- Leak resistance/short circuit to ground
- Below limit value
- Above limit value
- Occurrence of faults
The fault occurred as follows:
- statistically (i.e. once)
- sporadically (i.e. more than once)
- Fault status
The following status types are possible:
- available (at the time of the last diagnosis routine)
- not available (at the time of the last diagnosis routine).
