Failure / Defect of Navigation System

Vehicle Type:
911 Carrera (996), 911 Carrera 4 (996)

Model Year:
2001 (1)

Equipment:
Porsche Communication Management (PCM)

Concerns:
Navigation system

Situation:
Failure/defect of navigation system.

Information:

In the case of a failure of the navigation system in the PCM with the fault types listed below, a fault in the navigation unit is present. Failure can occur after the operating temperature has been attained. This corresponds to an operation time of 30-45 minutes.

Fault type:

- The screen is black and the fault message "CD read error" or "CD upside down" appears.

- In some cases, the navigation system fails completely and can no longer be operated even after restarting the system.

- All other functions of the PCM control module function operate trouble-free.

- A fault is not recorded in the PCM fault memory.

- After the unit has cooled off and has been switched on again, the faults re-occur once the operating temperature has been attained.

The cause is a faulty condenser in the navigation unit. PCMs could be affected which were installed in Model Year 01 (1) from August to November, 2000.

In the case of complaint, the navigation unit is to be replaced.
