Positive Crankcase Ventilation: Service and Repair

Removing and Installing Air/Oil Separator/ Oil Mist Collector








Preliminary work

1. Raise the vehicle.
2. Remove air cleaner housing.

Warning
Objects or loads failing down
^ Risk of squashing or crushing


-> Secure components to prevent them from falling down.


3. Disconnect the battery.
4. Remove the alternator.
5. Remove the secondary air-pump.
6. Draing coolant.
7. Remove the coolant reservoir
8. Remove the air cleaner housing.
9. Remove the throttle body housing.
10. Remove the tuning pipe/resonance tube.
11. Remove the intake manifold and seal off intake ports to prevent contamination. Service and Repair
12. Remove rear wheels. Service and Repair

Removing oil separator

1. Unclip electric line for starter.
2. Remove oil separator.







2.1. Release and pull off the engine vent line -1- at the oil separator by pressing the locking ring.
2.2. Remove clamps and remove hose -2-



2.3. Remove bellow -1 and vent line -2-.

2.4. Using the access point through the driver-side rear wheel-well, unscrew two external screws -3-.



2.5. Pull oil separator -3- off the oil/water heat exchanger.
2.6. Close off bores with adhesive tape or suitable stoppers.


Installing oil separator

1. Remove adhesive tape or stoppers from the bores.
2. Replace O-rings.




Replacing O-rings for oil separator
2.1. Grease and fit new O-rings -2- with "Kluber Syntheso Glep" grease (Porsche Part No. 000.043.204.68).



3. Install oil separator.
3.1. Fit oil separator into the bracket for the oil/water heat exchanger.

View From Rear Driver-side Wheel-well:







3.2. Using the access point throught the driver-side rear wheel-well, fit and tighten two external screws -3-.
-> Tightening torque: 13 Nm (9.5 ftlb.)







3.3. Fit and secure engine vent line -1- on the oil separator.
3.4. Fit and secure hoses -2- on oil separator.



3.5 Fit and secure bellow -1- and vent line -2-.

4. Clip in electric line for starter.

Subsequent work

1. Install intake-air distributor pipe on cylinder bank 4-6.
2. Install tuning pipe.
3. Install the coolant reservoir.
4. Fill cooling system with coolant.
5. Install the secondary air pump.
6. Install the alternator.
7. Install the throttle body housing.

-> Secure components to prevent them from falling down.



8. Install air cleaner housing.
9. Install rear wheels. Service and Repair
