Concern:

Connection of fuel return line from engine to vehicle has been modified.

Information:

Connection of the fuel return line has been modified from a screw connection to a coupling connection as of December 20, 2000, beginning with VIN: 99 61S 68 6434.

Effective immediately, all replacement engines (new and exchange units) will be equipped with a new coupling type fuel return line. When installing a replacement engine, the fuel return line connection type must be checked. If differing connection types are present, perform either Procedure 1 or Procedure 2.

Procedure 1.
Before installing the replacement engine, remove the fuel line that runs from the fuel cooler to the left side of the engine compartment. On the old engine, remove the same fuel line and install it on the replacement engine. Reinstall the left over fuel line on the old engine.

Procedure 2.
When ordering the replacement engine, order a vehicle side fuel return line (996 201 275 03) with the new coupling connection. Replace vehicle side fuel return line before installing the engine.
