Broken Seat Frame For Backrest
Vehicle Type:
911 Turbo (996)
Model Year:
As of 2001(1)
Concern:
Seat backrest support separating from the backrest.
Information:
Vehicles manufactured from April 28, 2000 to June 2000 have the potential for the support located in the seat backrest to break, causing the support to separate from the backrest (see figure 1). If one backrest support is found to be defective, the other seat backrest support has to be replaced as well.
Work Procedure:
1. Disengage backrest center section at top and fold it forward onto the seat cushion. Disengage seal from the backrest center section at bottom. If the fastening clips (part number, 311 881 247) should become caught at the edge of the backrest shell, they should be pulled off there and pressed back into the seal groove.
Note:
Replaced damaged fastening clips.
2. Disengage seat covering from the covering frame.
3. Cut through the upholstery clips (9 ea. per seat) with a pair of side cutters.
4. Detach covering frame and seat covering from the foam part. Remove the cut upholstery clips.
5. Fasten the new covering frame on the seat covering using new covering clips (000 043 071 00) or tie-wraps (approx. 100 x 2.5 x 1.5 mm).
6. Fold the seat covering over and engage it in the hooks of the covering frame, starting with the upper three hooks.
7. For vehicles with lumbar support cushions, stick felt (25 mm wide, part number, 964 555 565 00) on the covering frame in the area of the lumbar support. It may be possible to re-use the felt strips of the old covering frame.
8. Insert the seal into the backrest center section at bottom.
9. Engage the backrest center section at top.
