Incorrect Programming of Vehicle Keys
Vehicle Type:
911 Turbo (996)
Model Year:
As of 2001 (1)
Concern:
Vehicles with remote key entry and seat memory; the storage of the seat and mirror setting does not correspond to the assigned vehicle key.
Information:
As of model '01 (1), the key head remote control is integrated with the seat memory function. It a locked vehicle is opened with the key head remote control, the driver's seat and the door mirror will be set in the position stored in the seat memory.
Because of a hardware fault, the radio code and the transponder code have been entered in different storage positions in the alarm control unit.
When the programming numbers are not entered in the corresponding storage positions in the alarm control unit, the stored seat and mirror settings will be set to opposite keys (vehicle key no.2 are allocated to vehicle key no.1 and vice versa). This results in incorrect seat and mirror positions being set or the current positions being maintained after using the remote control.
In the case of complaint, the transponder codes have to be stored in the same positions in the alarm system control unit as the key head codes using the Porsche System Tester 2 (PST2). To do this, all vehicle keys (md. spare key) must be available. The key learning code from IPAS is also required.
Affected vehicle identification number ranges are:
99 71S 68 5065 to 99 01S 68 5957
Work Procedure:
Correcting the storage positions in the alarm memory.
1. Lock and unlock the vehicle again with a vehicle key via the remote control. Insert the key into the ignition lock.
2. Connect PST2 to the diagnostic socket and switch on ignition.
3. Select "Alarm system" in the control module menu.
4. Select the menu item "Learning function".
5. Select the menu item "Remote control".
6. "Input key learning code" appears on the screen. Enter the code using the the single arrow keys and press the double arrow key.
7. "Please confirm input" appears on the screen. Check the input and confirm with the F7 key.
8. The radio code of the remote control which was last used to unlock the vehicle is displayed under "Current radio key". The storage position is indicated at the same time by a black bar. Note the storage position (1, 2, 3 or 4) and the storage position of the other radio codes.
Caution!
Do not erase the radio key code or you will need to obtain the 24 digit code that is only available on the tag that originally came with that key.
9. Go back and select the menu item "Transponder key" and enter the key learning code. "Current transponder key" appears on the screen.
10. All transponder codes must be deleted for new coding. Press F4. "All codes will be deleted appears on the screen. Confirm with F7.
Note:
The transponder codes of 2 vehicle keys and one spare key are stored at the factory.
11. After deleting, the transponder code of the vehicle key inserted in the ignition lock is displayed under "Current transponder key".
12. Mark the storage position (1, 2, 3 or 4) according to the radio code position using the arrow keys and code it with the F8 key (save).
13. Remove the vehicle key from the ignition lock and insert the other vehicle key (with remote control) into the ignition lock. Switch on ignition and set up the communication between P512 and the control module.
14. Select the menu item "Transponder key" and enter the key learning code. The transponder code of the vehicle key is displayed under "Current transponder key".
15. Mark the storage position (1, 2, 3 or 4) for this vehicle key using the arrow keys and code it with the F8 key (save).
16. Repeat points 13 to 15 for the spare key.
17. Return to start menu and switch off PST2.
18. Disconnect P512 from the diagnostic socket.
