Concern:
Convert key to "Design" version used on Carrera GT. Not for 911 Turbo Cabriolet (996).

Information:

As an alternative to the standard vehicle key (hand-held transmitter), a "Design" key (hand-held transmitter) is offered whose appearance is similar to the Carrera GT.





Key blade, circuit board, and transponder of the standard vehicle key are compatible with the housing of the "Design" key. The "Design" key is only available for hand-held transmitters with 2 buttons (central locking system and luggage-compartment lid). It is not possible to convert hand-held transmitters with 3 buttons (central locking system, luggage-compartment lid, and convertible top

Work Procedure:

1. Disassemble hand-held transmitter.

1.1 Remove key bit from lower part of the hand-held transmitter, see Workshop Manual 96 62 37 "Disassembling and assembling hand-held transmitter".





1.2 Press back tab, Figure 2, arrow and carefully take out transponder, Figure 2, item A.





1.3 Press back tabs, Figure 3, arrows and take out circuit board, Figure 3, item A with battery.

2. Assemble Design key.





Note!
The tip of the transponder coil (Figure 4, arrow) must point to the key blade when installing.

2.1 Insert transponder in lower part of key housing, Figure 4, item A and secure with adhesive.





Note!
The notch (Figure 5, Item A) must point to the sliding latch when installing the key blade (Figure 5, arrow).

2.2 Push key blade in lower part of key housing until the sliding latch, Figure 5, arrow is felt to engage.





2.3 Insert circuit board, Figure 6, A in lower part of the key housing.

Note!
Pay attention to the installation position of the circuit board.

2.4 Position upper part, Figure 6, item B of key housing and press together tightly with the lower part.

Note!
If the hand-held transmitter no longer operates after conversion, information and instructions as well as a resynchronization of the hand-held transmitter can be found in the Workshop Manual 96 62 01 "Radio remote control in hand-held transmitter does not function".

2.5 Carry out function test.
