Removing and Installing the Roof Transport System
Installing the roof transport system
DANGER:
Danger of accident (death/danger to yourself and/or other road users) as a result of losing the roof transport system or individual add-on modules.
- Regularly check the roof transport system and add-on modules before each journey and during an exfended journey to ensure it is seated correctly and securely on the vehicle.
CAUTION:
Damage to the vehicle roof and/or roof transport system due to dirty guide rails (vehicle roof and/or roof transport system) or due to improper installation/removal of the roof transport system.
- Before fitting the roof transport system, check the cleanliness of both guide rails on the vehicle roof, and if necessary, remove foreign objects and clean with soapy water.
- Check the cleanliness of the 4 feet of both carriers and clean as necessary.
- Insert or remove the support feet of the roof transport system carefully and with caution in the guide rails on the vehicle roof.
- Remove or install the roof support with the help of a second person.
NOTE:
- The key of the roof transport system can be removed only when the lock barrel to the cap is horizontal.
- Opening and closing the cap is only possible when the lock barrel is vertical. When the roof support is removed, the pawl must also be actuated to be able to close the lid.
- The roof transport system can only be fitted on the vehicle roof when the cap is opened.
1. Opening the cap
a. insert the key -3- in the lock barrel and turn the key to the vertical position (-arrow A-).
b. Grasp the projecting upper edge of the cap -2- and open the cap downwards (-arrow B-).
c. Turn the key to the horizontal position and pull it out of the lock barrel.
d. Open all caps as described above.
2. Inserting the roof rack in the cutout of the guide rail.
NOTE: When the carrier has been fitted correctly, the larger radius of the carrier pipe must be in the front in the direction of travel.
a. Align the carrier -1- in the direction of travel for the vehicle corresponding to the vehicle symbol on the cap.
b. Fasten the carrier -1- on one end and position it slanted over the vehicle roof.
c. Insert the plastic washer on the underside of the carrier foot to be used -4- in the large cutout in the guide rail, in the area of the B-pillar (-arrow A-).
d. Lower the opposite carrier foot carefully, until the plastic washers of the opposite carrier foot are completely in the guide rail (-arrow B-).
3. Positioning the carrier on the vehicle roof.
NOTE: The carriers can only be locked in the click positions. The click positions are reached when slight resistance is met as it is moved. A clicking sound of the carrier can also be heard in these positions.
a. Move the carrier forwards or backwards in the direction of travel, until the desired click position is reached (-A, B-).
4. Fitting a second carrier.
a. Place and position the second carrier as described above.
5. Securing the carrier on the vehicle roof
NOTE: The cap can only be closed when the lock barrel is positioned vertically.
a. Fold up the cap -2- on the end of the carrier -1-.
b. Lock the cap -2- and pull out key.
c. By gently pulling on the cap -2-, check that it is closed correctly.
d. Close all caps as described above.
e. Shake the carriers gently -1- in the direction of travel to ensure the correct fit of the carrier on the vehicle roof.
Removing the roof transport system
NOTE: The steps to remove the roof transport system are the same as those to install it, but in reverse order.
1. Unlocking the carrier
2. Moving the carrier to the guide rail cutout
3. Removing the carrier from the roof
4. Closing the cap
a. Press down the pawl -5- on the inside of the carrier feet and keep them pressed down (-arrow A-).
b. Fold up the cap -2- (-arrow B-).
c. Lock the cap -2- and pull out key.
