Installing Turbocharger

No. 1 - 19:

No. 20 - 34:

Turbocharger, cylinder bank 1 - 4

NOTE: If it is difficult to fit the control box hose, moisten it with some water.

1. Connect control lead on turbocharger. Secure the line with a new sheetmetal clamp. Connect the control lead to the aneroid capsule.

2. Screw turbocharger onto the manifold. Grease the three fastening screws (M8 x 75) on the thread with Microgleit LP 475 / 999.917.812.00 mounting paste. Tighten the screws to 23 Nm (17 ftlb.) and then to 30 Nm (22 ftlb.).

3. Install turbocharger support. Tighten the two M8 x 20 fastening screws on the camshaft housing to 23 Nm (17 ftlb.). Insert the fastening screw from the front through the turbocharger and tighten with a new nut. Tightening torque: 30 Nm (22 ftlb.).

4. Screw in oil return line on the oil filter bracket. Tighten the line to 35 Nm (26 ftlb.).

5. Fit the coolant line on the generator. To do this, connect the rubber hose and fit the spring band clamp. Position the fastening clamp and then tighten the M6 x 12 fastening screw to 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb).

6. Screw in oil inlet line on the camshaft housing and tighten to 35 Nm (26 ftlb.). Position the holding clamp and then tighten the M6 x 12 fastening screw to 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb).

7. Screw the vent line back into the oil collection container and tighten to 35 Nm (26 ftlb.).

8. Fit the sheetmetal holding clamp above the manifold and tighten the M6 fastening nut to 7 Nm (5 ftlb.). Then fit the other holders in the marked positions.

9. Fit coolant inlet line. To do this, push on the rubber hose and fit the spring band clamp.

10. Install engine.

Cylinder bank 5 - 8

NOTE: The three turbocharger fastening screws must only be greased on the thread, not under the head.

3. Tighten oil line on the oil filter bracket. Tightening torque: 35 Nm (26 ftlb.).

4. Tighten oil inlet line on camshaft housing. Tightening torque: 35 Nm (26 ftlb.). Tighten the holding clamp to 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.).

5. Fit upper coolant line on the turbocharger. To do this, install an aluminium seal above and below the line. Tighten the line to 40 Nm (30 ftlb.).

6. Install coolant line between turbocharger and coolant distribution pipe. Screw in bolts on camshaft housing by hand. Then fit the line on the turbocharger. To do this, install an aluminium seal above and below the line on the coolant connection. Tighten the line on the turbocharger to 40 Nm (30 ftlb.) and on the camshaft housing to 35 Nm (26).

7. Tighten oil line on the tank turbocharger. Tightening torque: 35 Nm (26 ftlb.).

8. Refit the three holders at the marked locations. Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.).

NOTE: If it is difficult to fit the control box hose, moisten it with some water.

9. Connect hose lines to the control box and the ambient air valve.

10. Fit catalytic converters with new seals.
11. Install engine.
