Front Axle Alignment Specifications
Vehicle Type:
Cayenne / Cayenne S / Cayenne Turbo
Model Year:
As of '03 (3)
Concerns:
Front-axle adjustment values for suspension alignment.
- Modified adjustment values,
- New control values.
Information:
Enclosed with this Technical Information, you also receive an advance copy of the modified adjustment values for front-axle alignment for the Cayenne Technical Manual, Group 4, "Repairs". These adjustment values replace all other previously published specifications.
New - A "control value" has been included for front-axle alignment.
Explanation:
Based on the settling behaviour of the vehicle, a "control value" for track adjustment on the front axle is introduced in addition to the usual "adjustment values" for suspension alignment.
The upper tolerance limit of the control value is higher than the upper tolerance limit of the adjustment value
Track adjustment is only performed if the tolerance limit of the control value is not reached or is exceeded on the vehicle.
Wheel alignment should not be performed until the new vehicle has 120 miles (200 km) on the odometer. This is due to the fact that the settling behavior of the Cayenne suspension is not complete after this distance. For further information on vehicle alignment, please refer to the enclosed attachments.
Filing:
Make copies of the attachments and file in the Cayenne Technical Manual accordingly.
Replace Chapter 44-1.
Insert Chapter "44-2.1 - Additional information on suspension alignment" behind Chapter 44-2.
Literature:
Cayenne Technical Manual, Group 4, Running gear.
Attachment:
> 44-1 Adjustment values for suspension alignment.
> 44-2.1 Additional information on suspension alignment (control value).
Adjustment values for suspension alignment
See requirements for suspension alignment --> 44-2.1 "Additional information on suspension alignment (control value)".
Vehicle height
Note!
^ The following values relate to the empty weight, i.e. full fuel tank, vehicle with tire repair kit (or spare wheel, collapsible wheel) and tools, but without driver and without additional weights.
^ Tire pressure in accordance with regulations.
^ If the vehicle is a Cayenne with air suspension, it must be adjusted to normal level. Adjust from the low level to the normal level for the vehicle. The vehicle may be aligned and adjusted in this position only.
^ If the control module or one of the level sensors was replaced, calibration must be carried out with the Porsche System Tester.
Adjust vehicle to normal level:
^ Stop vehicle and apply brake.
^ Close vehicle doors.
^ Tap the right-hand rocker switch on the centre console in the appropriate direction until vehicle has reached the low level. Then adjust to the vehicle's normal level. The middle indicator light next to the rocker switch is permanently on. If a further indicator light should come on, a different level is adjusted.
Wheel alignment values
See requirements for suspension alignment --> 44-2.1 Additional information on suspension alignment (control value)".
Warning!
Danger of injury and damage to property due to malfunctions in the PSM control range if the steering angle sensor is not calibrated or is calibrated incorrectly.
^ Calibrate steering angle sensor with wheels in straight-ahead position using the Porsche System Tester.
^ The steering angle sensor actual value must be checked after suspension alignment where no changes were made to the wheel alignment values.
Note!
^ The following values relate to the empty weight, i.e. full fuel tank, vehicle with spare wheel (collapsible wheel) and tools. but without driver and without additional weights.
^ Tire pressure in accordance with regulations.
^ The toe-difference angle value is also influenced by the vehicle height. For this reason the measured result must be evaluated accordingly. No action is necessary in the case of small deviations from the toe-difference angle required value, as long as the value to the right and left is almost the same.
Additional information on suspension alignment (control value)
^ Wheel alignment should not be performed for runs of between 0 and 200 km. The settling behaviour of the Cayenne is only complete after this.
^ Based on this settling behaviour, a "control value" for track adjustment on the front axle is introduced in addition to the usual "adjustment values" during suspension alignment. The upper tolerance limit of the "control value" is higher than the upper tolerance limit of the "adjustment value". Track adjustment is only performed if the tolerance limit of the "control value" is not reached or is exceeded on the vehicle.
^ If suspension alignment must be carried out on a vehicle within the first 200 km, e.g. following repairs arising from an accident, the "adjustment values" must be used for tracking. The tracking must be adjusted to the upper tolerance limit on the rear and front axle.
^ The "control value" for the front axle is listed along with the adjustment values --> 44-1 "Adjustment values for suspension alignment".
