Control Unit Function

Requirements
The following conditions must be satisfied in order to carry out one of the tester functions:
- Parking brake is engaged
- Vehicle speed 0 km/h (0 mph)
- Rear lid (engine compartment) closed
- Roll-over protection strap retracted
- Ignition on
- Communication established with the Porsche System Tester II 9588

Replace control module

CAUTION:
- Risk of damage due to corrosion in the plug connections.
- Protect the plug connections from liquids.

The following points are to be observed if the control unit needs to be replaced:
1. The appropriate settings must be coded for the control unit. (See 'Coding' ).
2. The potentiometers must be calibrated in the new control unit. (See 'Calibration' ).

Coding

NOTE: This function is only present starting with software version V 18.0 in the Porsche System Tester II 9588.

1. Using the Porsche System Tester II 9588, select the menu item Coding.
2. The Tester displays the current coding as follows.

Model year up to 2002 or as of 2003

3. The display can be saved using the F4 key.
4. Using the up and down keys, select the coding option model year and continue with the key F8.
5. Using the up and down keys, select the model year of the vehicle up to 2002 or as of 2003.
6. Code the input by pressing the F8 key and wait until the display Coding modified appears.
7. The display can be saved using the F4 key.
8. End the procedure with the << key.

Calibration
The convertible top control unit must be recalibrated after replacing the potentiometer, parts of the convertible top or after carrying out adjustment work on the convertible top.

WARNING:
- Serious injuries or damages could occur due to the automatic movement sequence of the convertible top during calibration

- Ensure that you and other individuals maintain a safe distance from the moving parts of the convertible top, convertible-top compartment lid and windows.
- Ensure that objects are kept away from the moving areas of the convertible top, convertible-top compartment lid and windows.

NOTE:
- Each calibration procedure is recorded by the calibration counter (Actual values menu).
- The person who calibrated the control unit is stored in the calibration recognition (Actual values menu).
- The calibration values of potentiometer 1 (convertible top) and potentiometer 2 (convertible top compartment lid) are overwritten with new values in the Calibration menu item.
- The actuation counter 2 will be reset to 0.

1. Using the Porsche System Tester II 9588, select the menu item Calibration.

NOTE:
- The convertible top can be in any position when starting calibration.
- The procedure can be interrupted at any time using the F8 (stop) key.
- The procedure can be continued again using the F7 (start) key.
- The procedure can be completed by pressing the << key.

2. Start calibration with the F7 key.
3. The entire convertible top mechanism moves until the convertible top is completely open in the end position.
4. After it has reached its final position, the following text appears: Calibration successful: Display fault memory with the [> >] key.
5. Call up fault memory with the >> key.
6. End the procedure with the << key.
7. Rectify any existing faults if necessary.

Reset actuation counter 2

NOTE:
- The actuation counter 2 will be reset to 0 following successful calibration.
- Thus it is possible to read out how many total actuations (actuation counter 1) and how many actuations have been made since the last calibration (actuation counter 2) in the Actual values menu.

1. Using the Porsche System Tester II 9588, select the menu item Actuation counter 2.
2. Press the F7 Yes key and confirm by pressing the >> key.
3. The text Actuation counter 2 deleted appears in the function selection header.

Reset warning light

NOTE: The warning light must be reset after successfully remedying the faults.

1. Using the Porsche System Tester II 9588, select the menu item Reset warning light.
2. The text warning light reset appears in the function selection header.
