Attachment C - Work Procedure

Attachment "C" Work Procedure:

Check software version of PCM2 and BOSE amplifier and update if necessary.

1. Scope 1 - Check PCM2 software version and update if necessary.

Attention!
The programming operation must not be interrupted.

> Connect the vehicle battery to a suitable battery charger with a current rating of at least 40A.

> If the data loading operation is interrupted due to a voltage drop, malfunctions in the PCM2 are possible.

1.1 Connect charger to the power feed for the electrical system battery in the engine compartment and switch on.





1.2 Switch on the PCM2 by pressing the On/Off switch (> PCM2 Sports Cars -2-).

1.3 Press the Eject button (> PCM2 Sports Cars -9-) and remove music/navigation CD from the CD slot (> PCM2 Sports Cars -10-), if one was inserted.

1.4 Read out the PCM2 software version by pressing the MAIN button (> PCM2 Sports Cars -3-) and the TRIP button (> PCM2 Sports Cars -5-) at the same time.

- The software version of the "system software" shown in the PCM2 display is "3.0" or higher - continue with Step 1.10.

- The software version of the "system software" shown in the PCM2 display is less than "3.0" continue with Step 1.5.

1.5 Insert update CD with the label "PCM2 update CD 3.0, Sports Cars", part no. 000.043.205.46 in the CD slot (> PCM2 Sports Cars -10-).

Note!
The software update starts automatically.

1.6 The following message appears in the PCM2 display: "Updating software to version 3.0" Select "Yes" by turning the rotary knob (> PCM2 Sports Cars -7-) and then confirm by pressing the rotary knob (> PCM2 Sports Cars -7-). An update is performed and details are displayed in the PCM2 display for the following PCM2 system components:

- "Update of system software, device 1 of 2".
- PCM update, device 2 of 2".

A progress bar indicating the progress of the loading operation is displayed for each update step.

1.7 When the update is complete, the message "Update successful" appears in the PCM2 display.

Note!
A brief message appears indicating a successful update and the PCM2 then switches off and on again automatically.

1.8 If the PCM2 does not switch on again automatically, switch on the PCM2 again by pressing the On/Off switch (> PCM2 Sports Cars -2-).

1.9 Press the Eject button (> PCM2 Sports Cars -9-) to remove the update CD from the CD slot (> PCM2 Sports Cars -10-).

1.10 Vehicles with BOSE sound package (I No. 680) - continue with Step 2. Vehicles without BOSE sound package - continue with Step 3.

2. Scope 2 - Check software version of BOSE amplifier and update if necessary.

2.1 Read out the software version of the BOSE amplifier by pressing the FM-AM button (> PCM2 Sports Cars -1-), the AUDIO button (> PCM2 Sports Cars -4-) and the set button (> PCM2 Sports Cars -8-) at the same time.

- The software version of the "amplifier" shown in the PCM2 display is "00011929" or higher - continue with Step 3.

- The software version of the "amplifier" shown in the PCM2 display is less than "00011929" - continue with Step 2.2.2.2 Insert update CD with the label "BOSE update CD 2003-2, Sports Cars", part no. 000.043.205.50 in the CD slot (> PCM2 Sports Cars -10-).

Note!
The software update starts automatically.

2.3 The following message appears in the PCM2 display: "Updating software to version 1.19.29". Select "Yes" by turning the rotary knob (> PCM2 Sports Cars -7-) and then confirm by pressing the rotary knob (> PCM2 Sports Cars -7-).

2.4 An update is performed and details are displayed in the PCM2 display for the following system components:

- Amplifier update, device 1 of 2".
- Amplifier update, device 2 of 2".

A progress bar indicating the progress of the loading operation is displayed for each update step.

Note!
If the message "Update failed" appears or if a progress bar for the loading operation is not displayed: press the Eject button (> PCM2 Sports Cars -9-) to remove the update CD from the CD slot (> PCM2 Sports Cars -10-). Then re-insert the update CD in the CD slot. The software update will start again - continue with Step 2.3.

2.5 When the update is complete, the message "Update successful" appears in the PCM2 display.

Note!
A brief message appears indicating a successful update, then the PCM2 switches off automatically.

2.6 If the PCM2 does not switch off automatically, switch off the PCM2 manually by pressing the On/Off switch (> PCM2 Sports Cars -2-).

2.7 Switch on the PCM2 by pressing the On/Off switch (> PCM2 Sports Cars -2-).

2.8 Press the Eject button (> PCM2 Sports Cars -9-) to remove the update CD from the CD slot (> PCM2 Sports Cars -10-).

3. Scope 1 & 2 - Load the navigation CD.

3.1 Insert the new navigation CD - which is the latest CD for the region - with the part no. PNA 522 003 05 CD in the CD slot (> PCM2 Sports Cars -10-).

3.2 Press the NAVI button (> PCM2 Sports Cars -6-).

3.3 Confirm the warning note from the navigation system by pressing the rotary knob (> PCM2 Sports Cars -7-).

3.4 The following message appears in the PCM2 display: "Updating navigation software". Select "Yes" by turning the rotary knob (> PCM2 Sports Cars -7-) and then confirm by pressing the rotary knob (> PCM2 Sports Cars -7-). A brief message about the loading process appears in the PCM2 display instructing you not to switch off the PCM2. Then a progress bar indicating the progress of the loading process is displayed.

Note!
When the loading process is finished, there is no further feedback in the PCM2 display!

3.5 Press the Eject button (> PCM2 Sports Cars -9-) to remove the navigation CD from the CD slot (> PCM2 Sports Cars -10-).

3.6 Dispose of all old navigation CDs and store the new navigation CDs in the vehicle.

Note!
The old navigation CDs must not be used any more because otherwise the old navigation software will be loaded again.

4. Concluding work:

4.1 If you removed a music/navigation CD from the CD slot, re-insert it (> PCM2 Sports Cars -10-).

4.2 Switch off PCM2 by pressing the On/Off switch (> PCM2 Sports Cars -2-).

4.3 Switch off the charger and disconnect it.

4.4 Enter the Workshop Service Action into the Warranty and Maintenance booklet.
