Flywheel: Service and Repair
Removing and installing single-mass flywheel - GT3 RS, - as of MY 2004
Removing flywheel
1. Remove engine-transmission unit.
2. Remove transmission.
Note;
- In order to avoid deforming the thrust plate housing, always loosen screws in several stages and in diametrically opposite sequence.
- Make sure not to damage the crankshaft flange when removing and installing the double-mass flywheel!
3. Remove thrust plate and clutch plate. To counter, position toothed segment P201 b on stud and unscrew the 9 pan head screws M8 x 45 in several stages and in diametrically opposite sequence. Remove thrust plate together with drive plate. Remove ring gear.
4. Remove flywheel. Release and unscrew the 9 pan-head screws M10 x 1.25 x 23 while countering on the crankshaft belt pulley with special tool holding wrench 9548. Carefully take off flywheel.
5. Check clutch plate for wear; for specified dimensions, refer to, 996 Turbo Checking clutch drive plate for wear.
6. Check thrust plate and flywheel for wear; e.g. scoring or blueing on contact surfaces. Replace components if in doubt.
Installing flywheel
1. Clean flywheel and thrust plate with solvent naphtha. Replace guide bearing for transmission shaft at flywheel. Remove any protective wax on new parts with acetone or solvent naphtha.
2. Correctly position flywheel together with guide bearing at crankshaft flange (note dowel pin -arrow- ) and insert the 9 internal-serration screws M10 x 1.25 x 23.
3. Screw in the screws evenly and tighten in the correct sequence -see figure- to the specified torque. Counter on the crankshaft belt pulley with special tool holding wrench 9548.
Tightening torque for flywheel screws 90 Nm (67 ft. lbs.)
4. Centre clutch plate with centering mandrel 9102 on flywheel, position thrust plate together with ring gear and fix using the 9 pan-head screws (hexagon socket) M8 x 45 -Item 1-.
5. Screw in pan-head screws evenly and in diametrically opposite sequence and tighten to the specified torque. To counter, position toothed segment P201 b on stud.
Tightening torque 25 Nm (19 ft. lbs.).
6. Refit transmission, Transmission.
7. Installing engine-transmission unit.
