PCM2.0 - Navigation Update
Information:
Subsequent update of navigation data to MY '08 data version
Model Year:
As of 2003 up to 2005
Restriction:
ONLY for vehicles with PCM 2.0
NOTE:
A new update to the model year '08 data version is available for the navigation data in Porsche Communication Management 2.0 (PCM2.0).
There are more points of interest (POI) available for selection. As a result, considerably more tourist information (hotels, restaurants, car parks, service stations, etc.) is provided.
Information
The new navigation CD(s) can only be used with software version "3.0" in PCM 2.0.
The software must be updated to version 3.0 for equipment with the system software version "2.0".
To ensure that the software works correctly, this update must only be performed by an authorized Porsche dealer.
Please observe the terms of the license.
Opening of the compact disc (CD) package and insertion of the navigation CD implies acceptance of the terms of the license.

Work Procedure:
1. Show the current PCM2.0 system software version in the display.
WARNING:
Danger of carbon monoxide poisoning from working with the engine running.
--> Only run the engine if the exhaust extraction system is switched on.
1.1 Switch on Ignition.
1.2 Switch on PCM2.0.
Press the ON/OFF switch (--> Figure 1 -1-).
1.3 Press the MAIN (--> Figure 1 -2-) and TRIP buttons (--> Figure 1 -3-) on PCM2.0 at the same time.
1.4 The current system software version 2.0 or 3.0 appears in the PCM display.
1.4.1 If the system software version is "2.0": continue with Step 2
1.4.2 If the system software version is "3.0": continue with Step 3
CAUTION:
Malfunctions in PCM2.0 due to interruption while loading data
- If the data loading operation is interrupted due to a voltage drop, malfunctions can occur in the PCM2.0 system.
--> Connect battery charger or run the engine.
2. Update PCM system software version 2.0 to 3.0
2.1 Preparatory work
2.1.1 Switch off ignition.
2.1.2 Connect a battery charger --> Workshop Manual '2706 Battery'.
2.1.3 Check to see if there is a telephone card in PCM.
Open the DRAWER for the telephone card (--> Figure 1 -4-) and take out the telephone card if there is one there.
Close the DRAWER for the telephone card again.
2.1.4 Switch on PCM2.
Press the ON/OFF switch (--> Figure 1 -1-).
2.1.5 Check to see if there is a CD in PCM.
Press the EJECT button (--> Figure 1 -5-) and remove the CD from the CD slot (--> Figure 1 -6-) if one was inserted.
2.2 Install new system software.
2.2.1 Insert PCM 2.0 Multimedia Update CD 911/Boxster (000.043.205.46) in the CD slot (--> Figure 1 -6-).
The update starts automatically.
2.2.2 The message "Updating software to 3.0" appears in the PCM display.
Select "Yes" in the display by turning the ROTARY KNOB (--> Figure 1 -7-) and then press the ROTARY KNOB (--> Figure 1 -7-) to confirm your selection.
The PCM display shows the system components in the PCM system (if installed) for which an update will be performed:
- Updating telephone. Device 1 of 3
- Updating system software. Device 2 of 3
- Updating PCM. Device 3 of 3
A horizontal progress bar indicating the progress of the loading operation is displayed for each update step.
Information
A brief message appears indicating a successful update.
PCM2 then switches off and on again automatically.
2.2.3 When the update is completed successfully, the message "Update successful" appears in the PCM2 display.
2.2.4 Switch on PCM2 again if necessary (--> Figure 1 -1-).
2.2.5 Press the EJECT button (--> Figure 1 -5-) to remove the update CD from the CD slot (--> Figure 1 -6-).
3. Install new navigation data.
3.1 Insert the relevant navigation CD (depending on the country) with MY '08 data version into the CD slot (--> Figure 1 -6-).
3.2 Press the NAVI button (--> Figure 1 -8-) and confirm the navigation system warning message by pressing the ROTARY KNOB (--> Figure 1 -7-).
3.3 The message "Updating navigation software" appears in the PCM display.
Select "Yes" in the PCM display by turning the ROTARY KNOB ( --> Figure 1 -7-) and then press the ROTARY KNOB ( --> Figure 1 -7-) to confirm your selection.
3.4 A brief message appears in the PCM display instructing you not to switch off PCM2 during the loading operation.
Information:
There is no feed back in the PCM2 display when the software has finished loading.
A horizontal progress bar shows the progress of the loading operation.
4. Perform a PCM function test.
