System G43
Control module function
Replacing control module
CAUTION: Moisture can cause corrosion to form. Liquid must not come into contact with the connector.
Bear the following points in mind:
- The control module must be coded for the corresponding country and for the brake system.
- The vehicle identification number must be entered.
Coding
NOTE: Menu item "Coding" can be called only if the automatic control module search was performed at the beginning of diagnosis setup.
Extract coding
Procedure:
1. Using the 9588 Porsche System Tester II, select menu item "Coding".
2. Use the [Up arrow], [Down arrow] and [>>] keys to select the menu item "Country coding" or the menu item 'ABS/PSM':
- The following points are shown under menu item "Country coding"
- The following points are shown under menu item 'ABS/PSM'
NOTE:
- The automatic control module search of the 9588 Porsche System Tester II will determine which brake system version (ABS or PSM) is installed.
- The 9588 Porsche System Tester II only lists the installed version as a possible choice in the coding selection.
- For vehicles with PSM:
- For vehicles with ABS:
After extraction, proceed as described in the following section to change the coding:
Modify coding
The Tester shows the current coding, and re-coding is possible with the [F8] key.
NOTE: The workshop number from the diagnosis card is stored in the control module.
1. In menu item 'Coding' use the [Up arrow] and [Down arrow] keys to select the 'country coding' and confirm with the [>>] key.
2. In menu item 'Country coding', use the [Up arrow] and [Down arrow] keys to select the correct version.
3. Start the coding process with the key [F8] Coding.
4. Wait until 'Coding has been changed.' is displayed.
5. End process with the [<<] key.
6. In menu item 'Coding' use the [Up arrow] and [Down arrow] keys to select 'ABS/ PSM' and confirm with [>>] the key.
NOTE:
- Up until diagnosis software number G41 (up to model year 2000), the Rpm signal is transferred directly from the ABS control module (i.e. discrete).
- As of diagnosis software number G42 (as of model year 2001), the Rpm signal is transferred from the ABS control module via CAN.
- If the incorrect ABS version is coded, the faults '55, speed signal, front right' and '62, speed signal, front left' are entered in the fault memory, the following functions are also blocked:
- Manual program
- Upshift prevention
- Downshift during braking
7. In menu item 'ABS/PSM', use the [Up arrow] and [Down arrow] keys to select the correct version.
8. Start the coding process with the [F8] key 'Coding'.
9. Wait until 'Coding has been changed.' is displayed.
10. End process with the [<<] key.
The 'Coding' menu can now be quit with the [<<] key.
Emergency program
If certain faults occur, the control module changes over to an emergency program:
- The transmission fault indication is activated (4th gear and engaged gear flash alternately).
- The 'Check Engine' MIL is activated.
- The transmission shifts to 4th gear as soon as possible and stays there as long as the selector lever is in position 'D'.
- The manual driving program can no longer be selected.
