Porsche PAS (R) System - Control Unit Replacement
911 (997)8/05
Section - 9, Electrical
Porsche Access System (PAS)
Control Unit Replacement Requirements
Vehicle Type:
911 Carrera (997)/911 Carrera S (997)
Model Year:
2005
Equipment:
Vehicles with 315 MHz anti-theft protection (I No. 535)
Concern:
Modified PAS control units.
Information:
Modified Porsche Access System (PAS) control units are installed in the vehicles as of the dates of introduction specified below. Once parts inventory of the previous control units with the index 09 have been used up, only modified control units with the index 12 will be available to meet replacement requirements.
If a replacement control unit with the index 12 (new version) is installed instead of control unit with the index 09 (previous version), a separate antenna cable - in addition to the modified control unit - must be installed between the PAS control unit and the antenna amplifier in the A-pillar because the modified control unit has a separate antenna input.

Work Procedure:
Replace installed 315 MHz PAS control unit (index 09) with modified 315 MHz PAS control unit (index 12).
1. Read out the vehicle data from the installed PAS control unit using the PIWIS Tester, > Workshop Manual '966619 Removing and installing KESSY control unit'.
2. Remove left A-pillar trim, > Workshop Manual '705719 Removing and installing A-pillar trim'.
3. Remove trim under instrument panel on the driver's side, > Workshop Manual '701919 Removing and installing trim under instrument panel'.
4. Remove previous PAS control unit (index 09), > Workshop Manual '966619 Removing and installing KESSY control unit'.
4.1 Remove both connectors from the previous connector housing (See Figure 1, Item 1).
4.1.1 Insert a small screwdriver as shown in, Figure 1 between connection on connector housing (Figure 1, Item 2) and connector.
4.1.2 Lift up connection using the screwdriver and pull first connector completely out of the connector housing in direction of arrow (Figure 1).
4.1.3 Remove second connector out of connector housing in the same way.
4.2 Dispose of previous connector housing.
4.3 Push both connectors into the new connector housing, part no., 999.650.491.40 until they click into place in the connection on the connector housing.
5. Install modified PAS control unit (index. 12), > Workshop Manual '966619 Removing and installing KESSY control unit'.
6. Insert antenna connector (See Figure 2, Item 1) for new antenna cable, part no., 997.612.053.01 info the antenna socket (Figure 2, Item 2) on the PAS control unit.
7. Route new antenna cable from PAS control unit to antenna amplifier in the left A-pillar.
7.1 Route antenna cable as shown in, Figure 2 in a large curve upwards along the wire harness (Figure 2, Item 3) for the PAS control unit (Figure 3, Arrow) until it reaches the dashboard retaining frame (Figure 3, Item 3).
7.2 Secure antenna cable on the wire harness with tie-wraps.
7,3 Route antenna cable (Figure 3, Item 1) under the ground points (Figure 3, Item 2) along the dashboard retaining frame (Figure 3, Item 3) until it reaches the left A-pillar and secure on retaining frame with tie-wraps.
7.4 Route antenna cable upwards at the left A-Pillar (Figure 3, Arrow) through the cutout is the dash-board to the antenna amplifier (Figure 4, Item 1).
7.5 Pull antenna connector for previous antenna cable (Figure 4, Item 2) off the antenna amplifier (Figure 4, Item 1).
Note!
The previous antenna cable remains in the vehicle.
7.6 Cut antenna connector for previous antenna cable (Figure 4, Item 2) off the antenna cable with a side cutters.
7.7 Seal the end of the previous antenna cable with insulating tape.
7.7 Secure the previous antenna cable on the wire harness for the antenna amplifier with electrical tape.
7.9 Attach antenna connector for new antenna cable, part no, 997.612.053.01 to antenna amplifier (FZV out connection, Figure 4, Item 2).
8. Install trim under the dashboard.
