Oil Pump Cover - Engine

Installing and removing oil pump lid - engine removed

Caution
When working on the engine, absolute cleanliness is essential! An engine cover should be used on the engine assembly support. Lay removed engine parts on a clean base and cover them without fail. Even the smallest particles of dirt can block up oil bores.

Removing oil pump lid

1. Place collection pan beneath engine to catch remaining engine oil.

2. Drain engine oil. Reinstall oil drain plug (hexagon socket a/f 8) with new sealing ring after a drainage period of approx. 20 minutes.

Tightening torque 50 Nm (37 ftlb.)

3. Remove catalytic converters.

4. Remove engine carrier. To do this, unscrew four M10 hexagon-head collar nuts (self-locking, a/f 15) and one M6 hexagonal-head bolt -Arrow-. Remove engine carrier.

Information
- Release pressure relief valve (hexagon a/f 17) -Item 1, bottom of figure- before removing oil pump lid, as the lid may not be tensioned in a tensioning device to release the valve in the case of the oil pump being disassembled.

5. Remove oil pump lid. To do this, unscrew hexagon-head bolts: Six M6 x 20, two M6 x 80 and one M10 (a/f 15) -Arrows-.

6. Carefully remove oil pump lid. Do not use metal tools to lever up the lid, as the sealing surface can be damaged. Remove moulded seal -Arrow-.

Installing oil pump lid

Information
- Replace molded seal for oil pump lid!

1. Clean sealing surfaces on lid and pump housing thoroughly. Insert new moulded seal on pump housing -Arrow-, then carefully place oil pump lid with driver pin (outer hexagon) into the hexagon socket of the intermediate shaft -Figure-. If necessary, turn oil pump gearwheel until the driver pin fits into the intermediate shaft and the oil pump lid can be pushed on easily.
2. Secure oil pump lid with nine hexagon-head bolts: Position six M6 x 20, two M6 x 80 and one M10 (a/f 15) and tighten with torque -Arrows-. If the oil pump was disassembled, the pressure relief valve (hexagon a/f 17) should be installed with new sealing ring -1-.

Tightening torque M6 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)

Tightening torque M10 45 Nm (33 ftlb).

Tightening torque pressure relief valve 25 Nm (19 ftlb.)

3. Fill engine oil.

4. Install engine carrier. To so this, position four new M10 self-locking hexagon-head collar nuts (a/f 15) and one M6 hexagon-head bolt -Arrows- and tighten.

Tightening torque M6 bolt 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)

Tightening torque M10 collar nuts 45 Nm (33 ftlb.)

5. Install catalytic converters.
