Diagnostic Trouble Codes in Airbag Control Units

Airbag warning light activated in multi-function display,
- Diagnostic trouble codes (8023, 8024, 8028, 8030, 8034, 8049, 801A, 801B, 801C, 80E1, 80E2, 80E8 or 80BA) in fault memory of airbag control unit,
- Return of functional airbag control units to the Warranty Test Center.
Information:
We have received airbag control units which were replaced under warranty because of diagnostic trouble codes in the airbag fault memory. Evaluation of the reported fault codes has shown that airbag control units were replaced even though the airbag control unit was not responsible for activating the airbag warning light.
It appears that there may be situations where diagnosis/troubleshooting was not always done in accordance with the "Guided Fault Finding" using the PIWIS Tester.
Note!
You must carry out "Guided Fault Finding" using the PIWIS Tester in order to properly diagnose and eliminate diagnostic trouble codes stored in control units.
The information in this technical information bulletin is an overview of the fault codes that may be stored in the fault memory of the airbag control unit, as well as relevant information on possible causes and remedial action.
An airbag control unit with modified software has been installed since January 25, 2005 (911 Coupe: 997.618.217.06 and 911 Cabriolet: 997.618.219.06). Because of this software update, some of the fault codes listed in the following pages are no longer relevant.
