Activating the CD Radio "Porsche CDR 23"

Vehicle Type:
911 Carrera (996) / 911 Carrera 4 (996)

Model Year:
2003 (3)

Concerns:
CD-Radio "Porsche CDR 23"

Information:

1. Due to an error in the PST2 Software Version 14.0, erasing the fault memory in "Control unit PCM2/CDR23" can cause interruption of the Porsche System Tester 2 (PST2).

2. Vehicle hand-over: After activating the control unit out of production mode, the radio remains inoperable (no sound output).

3. Impairment of the sound quality due to false vehicle coding of CDR23 and amplifier.

To activate control units of model 03 vehicles, software Version 14.0 or higher in the PST2 is required.

Work Procedure:
Completion of "Vehicle hand-over" process using PST2.

1. Erasing the fault memory in "Control unit PCM2/CDR23" can cause interruption of the PST2: Keys [<<] and [Esc] inoperable.

1.1 If the PST2 no longer responds to keys [<<] and [Esc} after erasing the fault memory, the PST2 diagnosis lead must be disconnected from the vehicle. Disconnect the connector of the diagnosis lead from the vehicle and then reconnect it.

1.2 After a short time the PST2 requests you to resume or cancel communication with the vehicle.

1.3 Use [Esc] to cancel the operation. The PST2 then displays menu item "Control units" and will now be operable again.

2 After activation out of production mode and then switching on the radio CDR23, the sound output is inactive (no sound audible).

2.1 Get out of the vehicle, close all doors and the lid and lock the vehicle using the hand-held transmitter.

2.2 Wait till the anti-theft protection LED flashes.

2.3 Then unlock the vehicle again.

2.4 Switch on the CDR23: the sound output should now be active.

2.5 If the sound output is inactive, the battery must be disconnected and then reconnected.

2.6 Ignition off: Disconnect and reconnect the battery.

3. Checking the coding of the CDR23 and the amplifier is correct for the vehicle:

3.1 Using the PST2, in the menu "Control units" select "PCM2/CDR23".

3.2 Select menu item "CDR23" and then "Coding".

3.3 Check whether the designations for the vehicle coding "Type", "Variant" and "Left/Right-hand drive" are correct for the vehicle.

3.4 Select menu item "Amplifier" and then "Coding".

3.5 Check whether the designations for the vehicle coding "Type", "Variant" and "Left/Right-hand drive" are correct for the vehicle.

Example:

Type: 911

Variant: Coupe

Right/Left-hand drive: Left-hand drive

3.6 If necessary, change and enter the coding for "Type", "Variant" and "Right/Left-hand drive" to those of the vehicle using the [F8] key.
