Torn Drive Belt - Proper Documentation For Warranty Return

Replacement of a torn drive belt

Information:

To prevent damage to the drive belt, the following measures were implemented in production during Model Year 2000:

^ Alternator with freewheeling / belt pulley (in manual transmission vehicles)

^ Clip for guiding drive belt (in Tiptronic vehicles).

If a defective drive belt is being replaced in Model Year 2001 and up, please adhere to the following steps:

1. Make a copy of this bulletin, circle which of the following applies (in bold type)

Freewheeling Alternator Pulley or Belt Clip

2. Staple the completed bulletin to the repair order.

3. When the old belt is requested for analysis, return the completed bulletin with the paperwork.

Important!
A physical check must be made during the time of belt replacement. Please do no assume that if is a vehicle with a manual transmission it has a freewheeling alternator pulley or if it is a vehicle with a Tiptronic transmission it has a belt clip.
