Overview










Disassembling differential
1. Remove transmission.
2. Fasten the transmission on assembly support.
3. Drain transmission oil.

4. Remove differential.
5. Remove taper roller bearing at the cover side using a two-arm puller and special tool pressure piece p 263 and take off adjusting shim S1.






6. Remove taper roller bearing at the housing side using a two-arm
puller and special tool pressure piece p 263 and take off
adjusting shim S2.





7. Fit transmission cover on transmission housing.
8. Prise shaft sealing ring out of transmission cover using a suitable
tool.





9. Place internal puller between transmission cover and outer
bearing ring and remove outer bearing ring.






10. Remove transmission cover from transmission housing.
11. Prise shaft sealing ring out of transmission housing using a
suitable tool.





12. Place internal puller between transmission housing and outer
bearing ring and remove outer bearing ring.





13. Loosen fastening screws between the differential housing and
crown wheel. To do this, insert screw into the differential and
counter with a suitable tool.






14. Remove crown wheel from differential housing using a soft metal
mandrel.






Assembling differential
1. Position crown wheel on differential housing and screw in screws in diagonally opposite sequence until
the crown wheel is completely tight to the seat.
2. Tighten fastening screws. To do this, insert screw into the
differential and counter with a suitable tool.






Tightening torque: 180 Nm (133 ftlb.)
3. Heat transmission housing to approx. 120 �C with a hot-air gun.
4. Drive inner bearing ring into the transmission housing as far as
the mounting face using special tools pressure piece 3062 and
insertion mandrel 30-505 .







5. Fill new shaft sealing ring between the dust and sealing lips with
grease and drive it into the transmission housing as far as the
mounting face using special tool pressure piece 9252 .






6. Heat transmission cover to approx. 120 �C with a hot-air gun.
7. Drive inner bearing ring into the transmission cover as far as the
mounting face using special tool pressure piece t10185 .






8. Fill new shaft sealing ring between the dust and sealing lips with
grease and drive it into the transmission cover as far as the
mounting face using special tool pressure piece 9252 .

- The thickness of the adjusting shims must be determined again depending on the replaced parts. 390815 Adjusting drive set

9. Insert adjusting shim S1.
10. Fit taper roller bearing on the transmission cover side on the differential using special tool drift p 264 b .





11. Insert adjusting shim S2.
12. Fit taper roller bearing on the housing side on the differential using special tool drift.





13. Install differential. 343537 Disassembling and assembling transmission
14. Top up transmission oil. 340155 Changing transmission oil
15. Install transmission. 343519 Installing and removing transmission G96/00 and G96/01
