Passenger's belt tensioner
Diagnostic conditions
- Ignition on
Possible cause of fault
- Incorrect coding
- Short circuit to B+/ground or open circuit in the wiring between the passenger's belt tensioner and the airbag triggering unit
- Passenger's belt tensioner faulty
- Triggering unit for airbag faulty
NOTE:
- The contacts in the belt tensioner are very sensitive.
- When connecting test tool 9516/4, ensure that both special tool contacts are connected in parallel and simultaneously.
- Once connected, the plug must be locked; this allows the electrical connection to be made.
Affected terminals
Terminals 3 and 4 in left-hand drive vehicles
Terminals 1 and 2 in right-hand drive vehicles

Diagnosis/troubleshooting:
Test tool 9516/4 instead of belt tensioner
NOTE: If the fault memory is cleared, the ignition must be switched off, the ignition key removed and the ignition switched on again in order to check the fault path. Only in this way is another self-test carried out.
