Replacing hood covering

Preliminary work
INFORMATION:
- Always replace the spare parts contained in the "convertible-top covering" scope of parts.
- The convertible-top covering must be replaced at a room temperature of at least 15 degrees Celsius (59 Fahrenheit).
1. Remove right and left side trim panels. Refer to Removing and installing side trim panel.
2. Remove seal for convertible-top compartment lid. Refer to Removing and installing seal for lid.
3. Remove roof liner. Refer to Removing and installing roof liner.
4. Open convertible top to the dimension - X= 50 cm-.
Preliminary work
INFORMATION:
- In March 2008, Production introduced a modification to the hood covering.
- In order to repair or replace the hood covering, the hood must be removed on vehicles that were manufactured on or after the specified date of introduction.
Date of introduction

1. Remove hood. Refer to Removing and installing hood.
2. Fit roll-over bar on assembly fixture. Refer to Mounting roll-over bar on assembly fixture
3. Remove roof liner. Refer to Removing and installing roof liner.

Removing hood covering
Loosening convertible top mechanism
INFORMATION:
- Two persons are needed to disengage and engage the convertible top mechanism.
- Two persons are needed to disengage and engage the convertible top mechanism.
1. Press ball socket of push rod -6- off the ball head of the main folding top bow.
2. Carefully remove convertible top by hand to the rear.
Removing tension cable of convertible-top covering
1. Unscrew side fastening screws -1- using assembly tool with T25 insert 9744 from the tension cable -2- and clamping rail -3-.
2. Carefully move convertible top forward by hand until the convertible top frame touches the windscreen frame.
3. At the front of the B-pillar (main folding top bow), unscrew the fastening screw -1- and swing the clamping rail -2- upwards.
Fastening convertible top mechanism
INFORMATION:
- Two persons are needed to disengage and engage the convertible top mechanism.
- Two persons are needed to disengage and engage the convertible top mechanism.
1. Move convertible top to its original position and press ball socket of push rod -6- onto ball head of main folding top bow.
Removing cover strip
1. Unscrew fastening screws -1- and remove cover strip -2- from roof frame -3-.
Removing seal for convertible-top tip
The seal on the roof frame is in two parts.
1. Pull off lower lateral seal -1- out of the profile of the retaining strip -2-.
2. Unscrew fastening screws -3- at front of roof frame.
3. Unscrew fastening screws -1- from the retaining strip -2-. Pull off seal for convertible-top tip -3-.
4. Remove additional seal -4-.
Removing shaped sheetmetal part with convertible-top covering
1. Unscrew fastening screws -1- from roof frame, and gently lift shaped metal part together with convertible top covering -2-.
Loosening convertible-top covering at the roof frame
1. Loosen Velcro fastener on inside -1- of convertible top covering -2-.
2. Loosen convertible-top covering at front on roof frame and lay it down to the rear.
Loosening fold placer and folding aid
INFORMATION: Do not pull out the fold placer.
1. Unscrew fastening screws -1- of fold placer -2- at left and right.
2. Drill out rivet -1- and washer -3- on folding aid -2- at left and right sides.
Loosening folding mechanism and folding aid
INFORMATION:
- Only for vehicles as of March 2008 or vehicles with the new hood covering.
- Do not pull out the fold placer.
1. Unscrew fastening screws -1- on the folding mechanism -2- at the left and right.
2. Drill out the rivets -2- on the folding aid -1- at the left and right side.
3. Pull folding aid -1- out of the hood support -arrow-.
Loosening tightening strip and inner inlet aid
1. Unscrew fastening screws -1- with washer -2-. Pull out inlet aid -3A- and tightening strip -3B-.
Disconnecting electric plug connection at rear window
NOTE: Electric plug connection for rear window not disconnected or connected correctly.
- Connector can break or become detached.
- Carefully pull off and connect plug coupling.
1. Carefully disconnect plug connection -2- on left and right from the connector -1- at the rear window.
Removing rear seal (tension bow)
1. Pull headliner -1- out of the groove of the tension bow -2-.
Loosening convertible-top covering at the tension bow
1. Unscrew convertible-top covering end piece -1- from rear of tension bow -2-.
Removing slide
1. Press expanding pin of expansion rivet -1- out of the main folding top bow -Arrow A- from the inside.
2. Pull out slide -2- from main folding top bow -Arrow B-, disengage cord -3- -Arrow C- and remove by the loop -Arrow D-.
