Part 2

52. Remove cylinder head cover 1 - 3.
53. Remove camshaft 1 - 3.

ATTENTION: Interchanged or dirty flat-base tappets.
^ Damage to engine components
^ The components have been run in the fitting bores in the housing, therefore do not interchange them.
^ Pay attention to cleanliness.

54. Remove flat-base tappet 1 - 3.
55. Remove cylinder head 1 - 3. Loosen and unscrew 12 Torx screws M10 x 230 from outside to inside on each cylinder head. Lift cylinder head and seal from crankcase.
56. Remove cylinder head cover 4 - 6.
57. Remove camshaft 4 - 6.

ATTENTION: Interchanged or dirty flat-base tappets.
^ Damage to engine components
^ The components have been run in the fitting bores in the housing, therefore do not interchange them.
^ Pay attention to cleanliness.

58. Remove flat-base tappet 4 - 6.
59. Remove cylinder head 4 - 6. Loosen and unscrew 12 Torx screws (M10 x 230) from outside to inside on each cylinder head. Lift cylinder head and seal from crankcase.

60. Remove oil pump with housing -1- by unscrewing the two hexagon-head bolts (M6 x 80) -2- , two Torx screws (M6 x 20) -3and (M10 x 100) -4-. Remove housing and ensure that the flange projection of the oil pump drive is not tilted. Replace two O-rings during installation.

61. Remove carbon deposits and other residues on all six pistons with a brass brush, making the engraved markings -arrow points to flywheel side- visible. In addition, before removing, number and mark the pistons in the installation position.
62. Unscrew aluminum screw plug (M27) for the assembly bore (piston pin).
63. Remove lower M6 guide and tensioning rail screws (hexagon socket a/f 5), remove the guide and tensioning rails from the chain spaces.
64. Remove oil filter with special tool release key 9204.

65. Unscrew 13 Torx screws M6 x 20 on the oil pan cover. Tap cover gently on the sides using a plastic hammer, then carefully lift it at the leverage bar -> Lifting the oil pan cover using a plastic-coated mounting lever and remove the oil pan.

66. Remove air/oil separator (swirl pots) and oil suction pipe. To remove each separator, unscrew two M6 x 20 Torx screws and pull out the separator. Unscrew two M6 x 20 Torx screws on the oil suction pipe and remove the oil suction pipe. Replace O-ring and screws during installation.
67. Remove bearing cover for intermediate shaft.

Assembling engine

ATTENTION: Damage due to ingress of dirt
Oil bores/oil ducts can become blocked up.
^ When working on the engine, absolute cleanliness is essential.
^ Lay removed engine parts on a clean base and cover them without fail.
^ Use the cover for dust protection when fitting the engine NR.165 on the engine assembly support.

Note: All O-ring and seals (shaft seals) and micro-encapsulated screws or lock nuts must be replaced.

Note: Replace O-ring and grease shaft seals lightly with Optimol MP3.

Note: Cylinder-head gaskets are identical parts, lay them down with the TOP identification facing upwards.

Note: The O-ring for the spark-plug recesses must be replaced.

Note: Re-insert flat-base tappets in the fitted bores in which they were positioned before the disassembly. The flat-base tappets have been run in the fitting bores in the housing and therefore may not be switched.

The engine is assembled in reverse order to the disassembly. Components that are not replaced must be cleaned.
