Fold placer in convertible top.
Situation:
Left or right cord of fold placer is torn
When actuating the convertible top, the left or right cord of the fold placer can tear off the elastic center piece of the fold placer on the above-mentioned vehicles. This problem arises because the cords are not sufficiently crimped to the center piece.
The indications that the fold placer is no longer functioning is that the torn fold placer cord will hang down loosely at the side when the convertible top is closed.
The procedure used to crimp the cords has been changed as of the specified date of introduction.
In the event of a complaint, the fold placer used previously in the convertible top must be replaced with a fold placer with modified crimping.
Note
The convertible top or convertible top covering does not have to be replaced if the fold placer cord torn!
Action Required
^ Remove the torn fold placer.
^ Install a fold placer with modified crimping.

Procedure:
1 Remove the torn fold placer.
The fold placer is guided in through the convertible top in a guide pocket running diagonally with respect to the direction of travel. The fold placer is secured to the inside of the convertible top cover strip with a cord at the left and right side. The state of the cords can be seen when the convertible top is in service position (-->Figure 1).
1.1 Move convertible top to service position, see --> Workshop Manual "6101IN Convertible-top service position".
1.2 Unscrew fastening screw (--> Figure 1-Item 1-) for the fold placer cord (--> Figure 1 -Item 2-) on the cover strip at the left and right and remove the torn fold placer cord.
1.3 Carefully unclip front convertible top inner lining (--> Figure 2-Arrow 1-) at the left and right, see --> Workshop Manual "670999 Removing and installing roof liner" until the guide pocket of the fold placer (--> Figure 2 -Arrow 2-) in the convertible top is accessible.
1.4 Pull fold placer out of guide pocket in the convertible top by pulling on the intact cord.
2. Install a fold placer with modified crimping.
2.1 Make up an assembly wire using a piece of wire 1,000 mm long and 1.5 mm in diameter (e.g. welding wire). To do this, bend one end of the wire over to form a hook (Figure 3-Arrow-).
Danger
Danger of injury from assembly wire.
--> Bend over the end piece of the assembly wire opposite the hook.
--> Always bend the assembly wire first before using it.
2.2 Thread the loop of the fold placer cord onto the hook --> Figure 4-Arrow 1-) of the assembly wire (--> Figure 4 -Arrow 2-).
2.3 Slide the fold placer with the assembly wire (Figure 5-Arrow 1-) through the guide pocket in the convertible top (-- Figure 5-Arrow 2-) until the fold placer cord can be loosened from the assembly wire hook on the opposite side.
2.4 Pull the fold placer cord off the assembly wire hook and guide it over the main folding top bow of the convertible top (--> Figure 6-Arrow 1-). Secure the cord to the convertible top cover strip using the fastening screw (--> Figure 6-Arrow 2-), see also --> Workshop Manual "672855 Replacing convertible-top covering".
2.5 Guide the other fold placer cord on the opposite side over the main folding top bow of the convertible top and secure to the convertible top cover strip with the fastening screw, see also ~ Workshop Manual "672855 Replacing convertible-top covering
2.6 Pull the assembly wire out of the guide pocket in the convertible top.
2.7 Clip front convertible-top inner lining onto the convertible top, see ~ Workshop Manual "670979 Removing and installing roof liner".
2.8 Close convertible top.
