Removing and installing differential

Preliminary work

1. Raise the vehicle at the specified jacking points.
2. Remove rear right wheel.
3. Remove support plate.
4. Unscrew fastening nuts for restraining cables and remove restraining cables from cross member.





5. Retaining device P 9624/1 must be screwed to cross member, then turn spindle upwards and support engine.
6. Drain oil for final drive.

Removing differential

1. Remove cover for final drive.

Note: the whereabouts of the adjusting shims and outer bearing rings in the differential cover and in the transmission housing. The adjusting shims are calibrated and may not be modified or switched.

2. Remove final drive.

Installing differential

1. If necessary, insert adjusting shims and outer bearing rings in transmission housing and differential cover. The adjusting shims sit under the outer bearing rings.
2. Insert final drive in transmission housing.
3. Coat new toroidal sealing ring on lid with oil and place onto lid.
4. Position cover for final drive.





5. Screw in cover screws -1, 2 and 3- and tighten by hand.
6. Screw in cover screws in the following order -1 to 12- and tighten.





Subsequent work

1. Top up oil for final drive and perform all assembly work described.





2. Retaining device P 9624/1 must then be removed from cross member.
3. Fit restraining cables to cross member.





4. Install support plate.
5. Install right wheel.
6. Lower the vehicle.
