Tools
Preliminary work for removing oxygen sensor in front of catalytic converter
DANGER: Incorrect raising of the vehicle
- Damage to person or property caused by the car falling down.
- Raise the vehicle at the prescribed jacking points.
1. Remove respective rear wheel. Use the prescribed special tool socket wrench insert 300 to avoid damaging the rims.
2. Remove rear underbody cover.
Removing Oxygen Sensor In Front Of Catalytic Converter
DANGER: Parts of the exhaust system become extremely hot.
- Danger of burns
- Permanent scarring of the skin
- Do not begin work until the exhaust system has cooled down completely.
- If it is imperative that you work on the hot exhaust system, ensure that you wear fire-resistant and heat-resistant protective gear.
ATTENTION: The oxygen sensor may be damaged if handled incorrectly.
- Do not remove the plastic cap on the thread until just prior to fitting the oxygen sensor. The thread grease must never come into contact with the connector.
- Protect sensors - before and after fitting - against mechanical shocks.
- Sensors that were dropped on the floor must not be used owing to the risk of a broken ceramic insulator.
- The cables must not be twisted or kinked when the sensors are screwed in. Avoid pulling on the cable and connector.
- Cleanliness in the housing of the plug connections is of utmost importance for the oxygen sensor to function properly. Particles of dirt can impair the function of the oxygen sensor. The connector must therefore be protected against any and all types of soiling.
- Sensors with a soiled or damaged connector must no longer be used.
- Protect the cables and plugs when carrying or moving the exhaust system with the sensors already fitted.
- High-pressure cleaning equipment must not be used in the area of the sensors and plug connections.
- Contact and corrosion agents, e.g. Stabilant, must not be applied to the plug contacts of the oxygen sensors.
1. Unclip cable plug -1- and connecting cable -2- from the support. Release and disconnect cable plug -1-.
Connector For Left Oxygen Sensor:
2. Expose connecting cable (blue) up to oxygen sensor.
3. Loosen the oxygen sensor -arrow- using an open-ended wrench (a/f 22). The connecting cable must also pull out when the oxygen sensor is removed.

1. Replace sealing ring -arrow-.
Sealing Washer For Oxygen Sensor:
2. Position oxygen sensor by hand and screw it in using accessory for torque wrench: Open ring wrench (angled) NR.96-3. The connecting cable must also push in when the oxygen sensor is pushed into position.
3. Clip connecting cable (blue) into the brackets. Ensure that wire is guided in correctly.
4. Insert and lock cable plug -1-. Clip cable plug -1- and connecting cable -2- into the support.

Subsequent Work For Installing Oxygen Sensor In Front Of Catalytic Converter
1. Install rear underbody cover.
2. Fit the rear wheel that was removed. Use the prescribed special tool socket wrench insert 300 to avoid damaging the rims.
3. Read out fault memory and correct any faults that are present. Erase fault memory.
