Workshop Service Action W574 - Installing Washers On Exhaust System Bracket Clamps

clamps on exhaust system bracket

Information:

This is to inform you of a voluntary Workshop Service Action on certain 2005 and 2006 model year Boxster (987) and Boxster S (987) vehicles. Excessive clamping force of the exhaust system bracket clamp may eventually cause the exhaust tailpipe to tilt downwards.

To remedy the situation washer must be installed to reduce the clamps pressure.

Affected Vehicles:

A total of 6614 U.S. and Canadian vehicles fall within the scope of this Service Action.

Not every vehicle in the below listed range may be affected. Use the ranges below as a general guideline. Refer to Attachment "A" to determine if a particular vehicle is eligible for this service action. Alternatively, the VIN can be checked in the Porsche e-DCS/WWS for confirmation of an open service action.





The affected Vehicle Identification Numbers are contained in the VIN Ranges shown.

VIN List

Use the VIN range previously shown as a general guideline. The VIN can be checked in the Porsche e-DCS/WWS for confirmation of an open recall campaign. Also, the VIN can be checked via the VRU (Voice Response System) for any open listing.

Work Procedure: Attachment "B"

Install washers on both clamps on the exhaust system bracket.

1. Lift vehicle with platform lift according to instructions in --> Workshop Manual '401000 Lifting the vehicle'.

DANGER:
Parts of the exhaust system become extremely hot!

^ Danger of burns

^ Permanent scarring of the skin

--> Do not begin work until the exhaust system has cooled down completely.

--> If it is imperative that you work on the hot exhaust system, ensure that you wear fire-resistant and heat-resistant protective gear.

2. Install two washers on the left clamp on the exhaust system bracket.





2.1 Unscrew hexagon-head bolt (--> Figure 1-Item A-) on the left clamp.





2.2. Place two washers (A 8.4 x 16 x 1.6, Part No. --> 900.025.007.07) between the two plates of the clamp (--> Figure 2-Item B-), then insert and tighten hexagon-head bolt (--> Figure 2-Item A-).

Tightening torque 23 (17 ft-lb.) Nm.

3. Install two washers on the right clamp on the exhaust system bracket in accordance with Step 2.

4. Lower the platform lift.

5. Enter the Workshop Service Action in the Warranty and Maintenance booklet.
