ATF Filling Capacities Have Changed On Tiptronic Transmissions

6-speed Tiptronic transmission A48.20 (Cayenne V6), A48.00 (Cayenne S) and A48.50 (Cayenne Turbo): Tiptronic Transmission - ATF filling capacities have changed.

Information:

In models Cayenne (V6), Cayenne S and Cayenne Turbo, a new automatic transmission with revised ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid) filling capacities have been installed in production since January 2004 (see introduction date). The filling capacity increases to 10.1 liter ATF (previously 9 liter).

The different filling capacities are to be observed when replacing the transmission oil every 160,000 miles (240,000 km) as part of the additional maintenance. The automatic transmission can be identified by the transmission numbers on the transmission housing (see work procedure).

Replacement Parts Information

Only the new version automatic transmission will be available from the parts department when a replacement transmission is required. When replacing a transmission in a vehicle produced before January 2004 (see VIN break info) and equipped with the previous Tiptronic transmission, the transmission control unit must also be replaced. When a new version Tiptronic transmission has been installed, Porsche has made available a replacement page (with the new fill capacity) for the customer's Owner's Manual. See parts information for ordering part number and refer to the illustration shown for sample page. Page can be adhered over the existing page.

The procedure described in the Cayenne Technical Manual, 37 02 55 - replace ATF or 37 02 35 - check and supplement ATF, did not change due to the changed filling capacities. The technical data in the Cayenne Technical Manual, Group 3 Automatic transmission, Chapter 3 was revised and will be published with Supplement 52.
