Introduction
NOTE:
- The basic equipment of the Cayenne includes the immobiliser control module. The Porsche Entry & Drive (KESSY) function can also be integrated into the immobiliser control module. In fact, the assembly of both control modules is identical, but the Serv. Nos. are different (immobiliser control module: Serv. No. 9668 and KESSY control module: Serv. No. 9666). The diagnosis/troubleshooting provided here can be applied to both the immobiliser system and the KESSY system. The difference, from the point of view of diagnostics, is that the fault codes 0179, 0180, 0181, 0182, 0183, 0190, 0191, 0192 and 0193 cannot occur for the immobiliser control module. In addition, various menu and selection functions in the 9588 Porsche System Tester II are not used. In the component arrangement, the following components are omitted for the basic immobiliser: front left door antenna, front right door antenna, rear left door antenna, rear right door antenna, front left door sensor, front right door sensor, rear left door sensor, rear right door sensor, antennas on end of centre console, antenna on switching slot cover, loadspace antenna and the antennas on the rear bumper.
- The following troubleshooting diagnosis has been geared only towards left-hand drive vehicles and describes only these types of vehicles. In some cases, specified plugs and sockets may be assigned differently in right-hand drive vehicles, which can lead to incorrect interpretations during troubleshooting and to unforeseen accidents. Therefore, no work should be performed on right-hand drive vehicles without the correct wiring diagram and troubleshooting diagnosis description.
- After exchange/replacement of components such as the immobiliser control module, KESSY control module or vehicle key, a safety period runs down after the components are taught (to prevent misuse). It is not possible to start the engine during this time. If it is attempted to start the engine nonetheless, the message 'Immobiliser active' appears on the instrument cluster during the starting process. Switching the ignition on or off does not affect the waiting time. During this period, it is possible to perform work on the vehicle for which the engine need not be running (e.g. assembly/disassembly work).
- Software changes require the ignition to be switched on in order for the fault codes to be read out (condition for diagnosis) The exceptions are the following fault codes, which can be read out via menu item Special functions if the ignition cannot be switched on (see the following note): Fault codes 0003, 0087, 0166, 0171, 0172, 0173, 0174, 0175, 0176, 0177, 0178, 0185, 0288, 0576, 0668 and 1176.
- A electro-mechanical steering lock (ELV) adapted once using the 9588 Porsche System Tester II can no longer be re-adapted or only installed in the same vehicle.
- Some fault codes are generated in the immobiliser control module and KESSY control module that are registered and stored in the control module, but can be read out only via menu item Special functions (during selection of the vehicle type) because the ignition cannot be switched on once these fault codes have been stored. In detail, the codes are as follows: Fault code 0003, 0087, 0166, 0171, 0172, 0173, 0174, 0175, 0176, 0177, 0178, 0185, 0288, 0576, 0668 and 1176.
If the ignition can no longer be switched on, work through the following steps:
