Drivetrain - Unnecessary Transfer Case Replacement

Cayenne (9PA)

1/05 ENU 3965

Date: Nov 9, 2005

Transfer Cases Returned Under Warranty

Vehicle Type:
Cayenne/Cayenne S/Cayenne Turbo

Model Year:
As of 2003

Concerns:
Transfer case servo motor.

Situation:
Test results for transfer cases returned under warranty.

Tests carried out on transfer case, for which complaints were received and were returned under Warranty, have shown in approx. 90% of cases that the transfer case had no technical faults other than the servo motor on the transfer case was defective.

In the event of complaints regarding the transfer case, the fault must first be located using the PIWIS Tester in accordance with the diagnostic instructions in POSES. If the troubleshooting result prompts you to "Replace transfer case servo motor", only the servo motor on the transfer case should be replaced.

The transfer case should not be replaced in this situation.

We wish to point out once again that the repair work on the axle differentials (transfer case, front-axle and rear-axle differential) described in the Workshop Manual is approved and can be carried out as instructed. See also Technical Information, Cayenne, Group 3, No.3/02 - "Transmission repair work".
