Whistling Noise From Door Window Area

Whistling noise around the door window - window shaft caused by unsealed openings in the front and rear doors

Information:

When the air conditioner is switched on (on medium up to high blower setting) and with the door window closed, a whistling noise can occur from around the window shaft on the front and rear door windows. The whistling noise ceases as soon as the air conditioner is switched to recirculation mode or a window is opened slightly.

The cause is the slight overpressure resulting from the fan of the air conditioner with the windows closed. Air escapes from the passenger compartment through the openings in the doors as shown in the following illustrations), causing a noticeable whistling noise.

In order to prevent the whistling noise, the relevant openings in the front and rear doors have been sealed as of the date of introduction listed below.





Date of Introduction: March 19, 2005, as of the VINs shown.

Action Required:

In the event of the customer complaint Whistling noise on the door windows from around the window shaft" on vehicles produced before the above-mentioned date of introduction, close the openings in the doors (Figure 1 to Figure 4) with black fabric adhesive tape (duct tube) or with sealing tape (butyl tape) after removing the door trim panels,

Note!
When the door trim panel is removed, additional openings are visible in the doors, but are closed off when the door trim panel is installed. There are no whistling noises caused by these openings. Do not close these openings. When closing the openings shown in Figure 1 to Figure 4, apply the fabric adhesive tape (duct tape) or the butyl tape so that it is not visible with the door trim panel installed.
