Fuel and Ignition System
General Information - Engine Type M96.05
The Carrera 911's 3.6 liter engine is designed for a high specific output with a high torque over a wide rpm range as well as for very low emission levels and fuel consumption values. The fuel/air mixture is electronically controlled by the Motronic control module ME 7.8.
Development goals for the 911 Carrera:
- High specific output
- High torque over a wide rpm range
- Compliance to emission regulations, world-wide
- Low specific fuel consumption
- Unique Porsche exhaust note
- Reduction of maintenance costs
911 Carrera
The 911 Carrera's 3.6 liter engine is basically the same as the engine from the previous M.Y. 2004, 911 Carrera (996). Thanks to the optimization of the air cleaner as well as the exhaust system (especially the mufflers), the volummetric efficiency was improved further and the output, compared to the 911 Carrera (996) 3.6 liter, was increased by 5 HP to 239 kW (320 HP).
The engine is characterized by the unique Porsche exhaust note and fulfills the emission demands EU4 or LEV (USA).
