Safety instructions, passenger's airbag unit
WARNING: Incorrect triggering of airbag module.
- Danger of injury and damage to property as a result of incorrect handling of airbag units.
- The safety regulations. Refer to Safety regulations for handling airbag and belt tensioner units must be followed.
- The airbag unit must always be stowed so that the airbag opening faces upwards.
- If removed for an extended period, the airbag unit must be kept in a locked place.
- Remove ignition key. Disconnect battery. Route or isolate ground strap so that all contact with a ground carrier (e.g. body, seat frame) is avoided.
- After the battery is disconnected, always wait for 1 minute before disconnecting the airbag plugs.
CAUTION: Loosen the safety-related screw connection.
- Danger of injury and material damage if the airbag module is screwed on incorrectly.
- Always replace fastening screws for the airbag unit after customer service and reworking.
- It is not permissible to make alterations to the microencapsulated screws (e.g., use lubricant, loosen bolts, and screw them down again).
Removing passenger's airbag unit
WARNING: Incorrect handling of airbag units.
- Triggering of airbag unit.
- System faults can occur.
- Switch off ignition and remove ignition key.
- Disconnect the battery and insulate the ground strap so that all contact with a ground carrier is avoided.
- Wait 1 minute after disconnecting the battery.
- Only pull off connector on the triggering unit after the waiting time has elapsed.
- Make sure that no foreign objects are located in front of the airbag unit during installation.
- Replace damaged parts during removal.
- Always position the airbag unit in such a way that the airbag opening is facing upwards.
- If removed for an extended period, the airbag unit must be stored in a safe place.
- Airbag units must not come into contact with grease, oil, detergents, liquids, or similar substances.
- Do not expose airbag units to temperatures above 90° C.
- Do not remove the short-circuit spring on the plug-in contacts.
- Ignition and preparations may only be carried out by skilled staff, supervised by a second responsible person.
- Before disposal, the airbag unit must be rendered harmless by electrical ignition performed in accordance with all precautionary measures, thereby preventing it from being used incorrectly.
1. Unscrew the four fastening screws -2- for the airbag unit and carefully slide the airbag unit back a few centimetres, then remove it by pulling it downwards.
2. Unclip the electric lines -4- to the left and right of the airbag unit.
3. Carefully prise out the locking unit -5- and -6- the electric connectors to the left and right with a screwdriver -a- and then pull the connectors out of the airbag unit.

Installing passenger's airbag unit
INFORMATION
- If a new component (e.g. sensor, airbag control unit, airbag unit) of the airbag system has to be installed, the new component will be supplied with a barcode sticker (tear-off label).
- Tear off the tear-off label -2- on the new component -1- and stick it under the heading Proof of airbag system check/component replacement in the Guarantee and Maintenance booklet.
- The replacement date and mileage must be documented and the booklet must be stamped with the dealer's stamp.
