Front Suspension

Removing and installing lower front-axle control arm

Preliminary work

1. Raise the vehicle.
2. Remove front wheel.
3. Remove front underbody panel.

Removing trailing arm

1. On the 911 Turbo, remove the spoiler at the diagonal arm (air guide for the brake cooling system) -1-.

Loosen trailing arm on wheel carrier -2-. Counter with a screwdriver 9546 while doing this. Then press off ball joint using press-out tool 9560.

To prevent damage to the rubber sleeves of the ball joint, coat the rubber sleeves and the press-out tool in this area with tire mounting paste.

Trailing arm

2. Unscrew links for headlight beam adjustment (headlight height adjustment) -3- at the trailing arm (counter with an open-ended wrench). Left side only.
3. Remove threaded joint connecting trailing arm to diagonal arm -4- and front-axle carrier -5-.

Installing trailing arm

Before installing the trailing arm, check the various parts visually.

Replace lock nuts.

Observe correct tightening torques for front axle.

Ball joint taper must be free of grease.

Counter with a screwdriver 9546 when tightening the lock nuts on the ball joint of the trailing arm.

The sensor for headlight beam adjustment (left vehicle side only!) does not need to be calibrated.

- Installation is carried out in reverse order.

- When installing the trailing arm, make sure that the fastening screw on the trailing arm -5- is tightened only in vehicle position!

Vehicle position means: vehicle must be standing on its wheels, or wheel suspension is lifted with a universal lift until the two markings line up (not on the GT3).

On the 911 Turbo, fit the spoiler at the diagonal arm (air guide for the brake cooling system) -1-.

3. Check wheel alignment values and set any values that are outside of the tolerance range.
