Turbine Speed Sensor
NOTE:
The fault is detected when the turbine speed:
- > 8160 rpm (above limit value)
or
- < 128 rpm (below limit value) is measured.
Diagnostic conditions:
- ATF level OK
- Selector lever position D or M
- Gear engagement has been completed
- Engine speed > 992 rpm
- Output-shaft speed > 461 rpm
Possible fault causes:
- ATF level too low or too high
- Short circuit to B+/ground/between lines or open circuit
- Signal line insulation faulty
- Turbine speed sensor faulty
- Control module faulty
Fault reaction:
- From fault detection to fault confirmation and entry:
- The current gear is held.
- The torque converter lockup clutch is opened and held open.
- After fault confirmation and entry:
- A warning is displayed in the instrument cluster.
- The torque converter lockup clutch is held open.
- The transmission is shifted into conditional limp home mode, i.e.
- after fulfilling specific conditions (e.g., going below a speed threshold of 80 km/h (50 mph) in 5th gear), the transmission is shifted into mechanical limp home mode, i.e.:
- The pressure adjuster and solenoid valves are switched off.
- This opens the torque converter lockup clutch and 4th gear is firmly selected.
- The gear display shows 4th gear.
